Anyone been to Navarre, Fl?
vanity ^ | me

My sister bought a house last year in Navarre, FL, but before we could go visit her she was deployed to Trashcanistan. She will be back in a few weeks and we are going to go visit her for a family vacation. It will be me, my wife, and my 3 year old son. I am just trying to see if anyone has been there to see what all there is that is family friendly to do. My sister said it is like Destin, but without the tourists. I don't know, I haven't been to Destin either.

Destin and FWB are pretty close by. Lots of good resturants, then there is this...

Some of the finest beaches in the Western Hemisphere, in my opinion. Ft. Walton Beach and Destin not too far down the road with plenty of restaurants. Lots of shopping, too.

Been vacationing along the “Redneck Riviera” for nearly sixty years. No place better.

Yes.
Destin and Sand Destin is a shopping area. Okaloosa Island is what you want to see.

I can remember the first time I took my then five-year old to the beach over twenty years ago. She had never seen waves before. Lots of giggling and squealing. I predict the same from your youngster...

All the ‘snow-birds’ and spring breakers go to either Pensacola Beach or Panama City Beach. We locals stay between Sand Destin and Navarre Beach. The only real problem is traffic. There is only one main east-west highway, Highway 98, and it can be very trying on your nerves at times. But if you're here to visit, enjoy your stay. It is hot and humid right now so bring some light/lose clothes to wear.

Get them to take you to see the military museums on Hurbert Field, and at the West side of Eglin AFB.

A makeshift jelly fish first aid kit would probably be a good thing too.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. We were actually staying in Pensacola Beach, but we drove over, through a beautiful National Seashore, to Navarre.

It's mostly rental houses; if it just your immediate family, try to get a smaller house.

We got stuck in the sand, and that is catnip to rednecks, a number of whom came out of their houses to "help" us. After a few sort-of-scary, hold-muh-beer and watch me git ya out, moments, a group of competent guys (still Southern, but I would not classify them as rednecks) in a four wheel drive pickup stopped and got us out in short order. While we were doing that, my wife was invited into a high-class wedding party in a house across the street.

So, I suppose I am saying that there are all types of people there. It's a good place, and like someone else said, the beaches are great.

Went to the Eglin museum last fall. Well worth the trip. Excellent collection of small arms.

If you go freshwater fishing on the rivers and creeks, beware the water lizards.
They grow to lengths larger than 12 feet.
Watch Swamp People to know how to kill them.

Our daughter absolutely will not go in the gulf. From the first time she started getting in the water about 4 years ago she has always been stung by JF.

Didn't know the gators were a problem on the inlet side.
