He threw away a life of prosperity doing a “killer” job for the sake of conscience. Family, friends, and other loved ones are now memories, and he will probably be murdered at a young age. He is a traitor toward the economic goals of a handful; one could stretch this fact into a national security issue if one thinks in terms of collective prosperity, but surely this is naive. If he survives, only then will the definition of “hero” be met, for a hero must win. The guy’s a leftie, so watch out!

Too early to tell at this point. He violated his terms of employment, that's for sure, but if the government is violating the Constitution, that trumps anything he does.

I've been reluctant to say much about it, but I do know that if he went through the normal chain of trying to blow the whistle, and if there are illegal activities being perpetrated by the NSA, then the very people he'd be trying to report would shut him down. And going to Congress would have resulted in the same thing - him being shut down, since most in Congress favor a broad spying program on American citizens.

I do know that none of this was a surprise to those of us paying attention to Poindexter and the Bush administration back in 2002-2003, and it's not a surprise to those of us paying attention to the Clinton administration before that.

It's been very clear that there has been a concentrated effort to spy on everybody and everything, and Snowden may have just given us a peak behind the curtain. Sure, we had a warning with Clinton, and then with Poindexter's "Information Awareness" plan, and we knew it might be bad, but a lot of people were lulled into a false sense of security when the GOP-led Congress supposedly shut down Poindexter's plans. Those of us paying attention saw that some of the parts of his program(s) were simply broken into pieces and scattered around, and not really shut down.
