If I so much as look at a carb, I gain weight.

Giving up my nightly bowl of cereal was tough.

Yup. The hoedowns are a finishing move or one move that can be done alone without her primary back stretch. The sequence of the workout is important.

But if you go this route,a tip.Use mineral oil every day or you'll never go to the bathroom again.Mineral oil's taste is unpleasant but only for a second or two.

You may want to check out magnesium supplementation. There are many concurrent studies being done on insulin resistance treatment with magnesium supplementation. Here is one abstract. I lost my direct link, but is probably available with a search engine.

I recommend you purchase the DVDs. I bought the book first and it was useless without her direction and tempo. It’s best to get it from Theresa.

I miss different types of bread, and I try to eat small amounts of whole grain bread.

Man cereal is a killer ain’t it? It’s nothing but a fat adder. I loooove cereal but it wasn’t as hard to give up as I thought it’d be.

Solid advice. I highly recommend topical magnesium chloride. The mag defificiency can cause a bevy of issues.

I am impressed now with the amount of research on Metabolic Syndrome. I believe the first article (besides Atkins) was done by an Internal Medicine Fellow in 1994. Now it seems like the medical research du jour.

What angers me is the same people that shoved the lipid theory down our throats are now waking up to dietary disease related to insulin. All of the current epidemic tracks very well with the adoption of the food pyramid and the continuing floundering of government medicine trying to reinvent it. I keep hearing the little voice of the lipid followers now saying "never mind."

And drink a ton of water.

Yes, drinking plenty of water definitely helps.

My nieces were suppose to hate broccoli and cauliflower, according to their mother.
My brother and I fixed some raw broccoli and cauliflower in separate bowls and put some cold Ranch dressing, Chunky Blue Cheese dressing, and some Creamy Italian Dressing into some small bowls around the table.
We has steamed some broccoli and cauliflower separately and made a Holiday sauce to put beside them.
We hard boiled some eggs, and had a hot rotisserie Chicken we bought from Walmart
We set out the empty plates around the table with forks and spoons, and call the children into the dining room, and told them we were having "Trees and Clouds" for supper!
It was great!
The kids sat there a short amount of time, and watched me and my brother and my mother chow down.
Then they cautiously tried a raw piece of broccoli and cauliflower dipped into the different types of dressing.
Then they tried the steamed broccoli and cauliflower that we had buttered heavily and seasoned with sea salt and a touch of black pepper.
The kids started diving into the food and before it was realized with all their talking, they wiped out all of it.
When they got back to their mother's (my brother's divorced) house, the kids went on and on about eating "Trees and Clouds" and wanted their mother to do it.
When my brother's ex-wife asked us what they were talking about we told here they wanted broccoli and cauliflower, both raws with cold dressing, and steamed separately. His ex-wife couldn't believe it.

Well I certainly hope eggs (especially egg whites) are good, because I eat tons of them a day.

I’ve lost 6 pounds on Atkins (low carb) after two weeks and eat all I want of certain foods (lots of eggs on the menu, boiled, scrambled, fried, devil eggs). Eat all the meat you want, and good size portions of certain vegetables.

Check out ‘The 6 Week Cure for the Middle Age Middle’ by the Drs. Eades. They're a husband and wife team that have successfully treated many people with metabolic issues. It alternates with one week eating 3 shakes plus a meal and then the next week a low carb diet with three meals. The title says six weeks but in the book they say you can keep up the alternating weeks for as long as necessary if you have more than 20-30 pounds to lose.

You said you were pre-diabetic. If it hasn't already been done, see if you can get your insulin levels checked as well as having your blood sugar tested.

My daughter was diagnosed with PCOS and her insulin levels were three times higher than the normal range. She had tried different diets for the last 8 years and been unable to lose much weight. The doctor told her that she would have permanently damaged her heart because her body would have started consuming her muscles before she lost much fat. They put her on Metformin to help lower her insulin and she lost 35 lbs. in two months.

She didn't change her diet much because she was already eating a low carb diet. The only thing that changed was the new medication. Fat isn't always the moral failing some people in this forum think it is and simple calories in/calories out doesn't work if your hormones are seriously out of whack.

Good luck with everything! I know how frustrating it is trying to lose weight when your body is actively fighting you.

Brussels sprouts, when you cook them, be sure to add a little Apple Cider Vinegar to them for flavor.
They're great and don't over-cook them.
A slight crunch is nice.

Why would you want to eat a powder instead of real food? You can't go through the rest of your life like that--such diets always fail in the long run because nobody can really stay on them forever. And as someone who is prediabetic, you must stay on your diet for the rest of your life, or you'll end up diabetic. You have to choose a way of eating that you can stick to effortlessly, without thinking, for the rest of you life.

I'm in the same boat as you are, with prediabetes. What has truly worked for me is the Wheat Belly Diet. "Wheat Belly Blog

Here's a video in which the cardiologist who developed it describes it briefly: CBS interview And here is a video by the doctor: Video

P.S. My best girlfriend lost 25 pounds recently on this diet. My blood sugar is back in the normal range, my weight was never an issue, but my arthritis and asthma are much improve.
