Birdwatchers flock to see rare bird, then watch it killed by wind turbine
Fox News ^ | June 28, 2013 | Staff

There hasn’t been a sighting of a White-throated Needletail in the United Kingdom for 22 years, so nearly 80 birdwatchers flocked to Scotland this week to get a look, the Telegraph reported. But instead of enjoying the world’s fastest flying bird soaring, they watched it fly into the small blade of a wind turbine and die.

Cries of sorrow and anger from the assembled birders began to turn into discussion as to what would happen to the bird's corpse, as we took pictures of it lying there.

Some people need to find a better hobby...

"Some stared in horror, some cried. A smaller group of mourners pulled a hibachi out of the back of their station wagon and solemnly sprinkled herbs and spices on the victimized bird."

Reminds me of the “otter” they saved from the evil oil spill up in Alaska years ago...

They saved it, cleaned it up, picked a nice day to release it back into the wild, the whole town came out for the release, the high school band came out, played a fanfare, they released it into the water, all the kids took the day off from school to watch and wave at the otter as it went out into the bay...

It (otter) turned over and appeared to wave back, the water was pristine, clean and clear, smooth as glass...And as everyone was cheering, and waving back at the otter...

Boom!!! A killer whale came up from underneath for a little snack...

Nature at its best...

IIRC, I believe there may even be a video of this on YouTube on this event...I got to go do some hunting for that...

We shouldn’t make fun of the Brits. Think of the ‘cuisine’ they eat. The bird may be an improvement.

I posted this a few days ago about the same story.

The bird was swift as lightning,
and swift as the wind.

Swift and sure it flew,
like an eagle but it had sinned.

Life is short and time is swift,
forever more will the Swift fans be miffed.

Guess the bird had a GPS that hadn’t been updated. Let this be a warning to us all.

The crowd of birdwatchers probably distracted it.

It’s an allegory for the actualization of leftist thought in general.

How many birds must die at the hands of men before the turbines are banned?????? s/???

Good grief. I agree with you - these people really need to get out more or get a life.

That makes me really sad. I wonder if the turbines create some kind of air disturbance birds naturally seek. Some are bound to fly into turbines no matter what like they get hit by cars.

Or they just can't see what is happening like when they fly into big glass windows.

Kill a snail darter and they’ll have your guts for garters, but kill thousands of birds with giant fans and you’ll join Al Gore on the podium.
