HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) A private security company Monday announced a $10,000 reward for a stolen K-9 unit.
Bear, a black-and-tan German shepherd service dog, was reported stolen on June 19 from West 118th Street and Birch Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Richard Davis of The Bodyguard Group.
A certified K-9 unit service work dog, Bear also volunteered at local hospitals and performed tricks for U.S. veterans and sick children.

Stolen GSD ping
What a beautiful face.
I really hope they find him and put the bastard that took him in prison.
Well, once the dog crosses past Crenshaw Blvd, it will be the possession of the homeys..
I’m worried about this dog since the article mentioned that it is a felony to resell a service dog. That makes me worry that the people who stole him might kill him, since they wouldn’t want to be caught with him and cannot resell him.
He does have a beautiful face.
Cannot imagine a trained German shepherd to be taken willingly or without injuries to thief.
Plus only a small fraction of the dogs involved are cut out for the training which it takes to be a K-9 police dogs.
My brother has three golden retrievers, one of the smartest breeds out there. All lovable and smart, but all failures in the training needed to be seeing eye dogs. That failure doesn't stop them from being great family companions and playmates to my very active young nephew.
You’d have to think, if the dog was properly trained, that the person who stole it was an insider.
Bingo. If trained properly, these type dogs won’t even take a treat from a stranger
Sweet, merciful Jesus, please do not allow that to happen. :(
They sound wonderful, and I bet your nephew just adores them!
As far as the 10k goes, to me dogs are priceless. I imagine that this dog is worth even more than that considering.
If this was my dog and someone stole it from me, I’d not be able to do anything else until he was found. I’d put up as much money as I could to find him as well.
I love shepherds and they are indeed smart. Maybe he just sick of doing tricks for treats and ran away........
May the Perp be bitten repeatedly in the softer parts of his body. Amen.
a thoughtful prayer...made me think of “Vengance is mine sayeth the Lord” ( and we KNOW God loves all his creatures.)
I will add to your prayer also “May the Canine Angels of the Lord encamp around this beautiful canine and bring him safely home!”

GERMAN SHEPHERD PING LIST
This is a low-volume list so dont worry!
(Please Freep-mail me if youd like to be on or off the list.)
A happy reunion & good news, though the pooch sustained some pretty amazing injuries considering he was only gone a short time.
Prayers here for a speedy recovery (as I gaze fondly on my two shepherds napping comfortably around my feet).
HAD to be an inside job; someone the dog knew and trusted. Mine, and those I know, would never willingly submit to a stranger EVER.
May the perp rot in hell.
