Edward Snowden Issues Statement From Moscow, Slams Obama

Statement from Edward Snowden in Moscow

One week ago I left Hong Kong after it became clear that my freedom and safety were under threat for revealing the truth. My continued liberty has been owed to the efforts of friends new and old, family, and others who I have never met and probably never will. I trusted them with my life and they returned that trust with a faith in me for which I will always be thankful.

On Thursday, President Obama declared before the world that he would not permit any diplomatic "wheeling and dealing" over my case. Yet now it is being reported that after promising not to do so, the President ordered his Vice President to pressure the leaders of nations from which I have requested protection to deny my asylum petitions.

This kind of deception from a world leader is not justice, and neither is the extralegal penalty of exile. These are the old, bad tools of political aggression. Their purpose is to frighten, not me, but those who would come after me.

For decades the United States of America have been one of the strongest defenders of the human right to seek asylum. Sadly, this right, laid out and voted for by the U.S. in Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is now being rejected by the current government of my country. The Obama administration has now adopted the strategy of using citizenship as a weapon. Although I am convicted of nothing, it has unilaterally revoked my passport, leaving me a stateless person. Without any judicial order, the administration now seeks to stop me exercising a basic right. A right that belongs to everybody. The right to seek asylum.

In the end the Obama administration is not afraid of whistleblowers like me, Bradley Manning or Thomas Drake. We are stateless, imprisoned, or powerless. No, the Obama administration is afraid of you. It is afraid of an informed, angry public demanding the constitutional government it was promised — and it should be.

I am unbowed in my convictions and impressed at the efforts taken by so many.

Edward Joseph Snowden

Up for discussion.

Many people on Free Republic have been saying for 5-years, "When is someone going to something about our intolerable situation?"

Well, Snowden did something.

Half of me believes this guy is doing Obama's bidding.

Half of me thinks he has the goods on Obama, as in Obama's Blackberry.

Note the format of the date: "1st July 2013." The order of fields is from a non-US locale. But Snowden's computer is, obviously, set to en-us; and he wouldn't naturally write the date like this. Did someone else, for whom this date format is native, write the missive?

This was actually a clue in one of stories of Hercule Poirot.

Doesn’t sound ghost-written to me. Some of it doesn’t make sense.
For example, how would (Obama’s) “deception” and “exile”—how would those things “frighten ... those who would come after me.”?

Whatever else may be said of this young man, he is speaking truth to power...and I applaud him for doing so.

The monstrosity created by our government to collect the private effects and communications of tens of millions of law abiding citizens with absolutely no probable cause is patently unconstitutional.

The people who are using it in that way, not for security of our nation, because no one I know of disagrees with them using such a system in such a way if they have probable cause and individual warrants issued based on that probable cause, but they are using it for political power purposes and corruption. They are angry because they have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar clear up to their shoulders.

150 years ago today a battle against a tyrannical Federal government in DC was fought by the sons of the Founding Fathers.

They lost, and as a result today we have Universal Suffrage and an retarded populace who have voted an evil homosexual Muslim foreigner into the WH twice, along with a multitude of like minded degenerate political class elites who like vampires or locusts aim to drain the productive American citizen of all that is sacred.

The breaking point is nigh

i think he was referring to the frightening of others who might attempt to do what he has done by revoking their passport so that they become “stateless [a man without a country].”

The guy dove into waters he's not fit to swim in.....but he still thinks he's a pro. Guys like that are a dime a dozen...he's just one of the many who have gone on before him.

I say Boo Hoo! To his statement...

.....he was beyond stupid...stupidly arrogant.... to think he could pull this off by negotiating with foreign countries....now he finds himself in Russia whining about “it's Obamas fault I'm here”..... this guy who stepped into his own crap...it will always be someone elses fault he is where he is because someone else didn't give him his “rights”.

Snowden needs to learn the difference between a “Privilege” and a “Right” which obvious he has no understanding of...let alone how the game is played on a stage he was not invited to be on...idiot just ‘assumed’ he was smart enough to “play” a role....well he got one...”A man without a country”.....

rotflol....Oh wow did you not spare any words....exactly right...

What a complete idiot Waldo will continue to show himself to be....Now he's crying he has no place to go....I wouldn't have expected anything else then where he is at now....a low level computer nerd thinking he could play in the big boys park, trapped in a corner and unable to squirm.

He should have looked at where all those who were before him ended up...did he somehow think he was smarter than they?

Assange said he'd be out of the Embassy in a year...and just like all criminals he made the mistake of overextending his steps.....now he'll be arrested the minute he steps foot out of the Embassy..... Cornered...and so goes Waldo.

I watched that movie yesturday.....though fiction it was intriguing that the man had people petitioning in Washington , throughout his life, for his freedom from his plight, and that to no avail.

Well Snowden definately burned his bridges when he left here as...and willingly so. He did count the cost but of course never anticipated he’d be ‘lost at sea’ for it.

I am thinking Snowden thought he could outmanuever and outplay Obama....so I am beginning to see this now as between Obama and Snowden. So far Obama has Snowden in check...regardless of what he thinks he has...and I do think Putin is enjoying his hand in this as well.

Absolutely...It's why they now spy on and monitor law abiding citizens using the Internet, etc.

They hate the fact Americans are grouping together and talking on the Internet like it's a giant town square.

Government was much happier when people were gawking at slanted, mindless, biased fedgov controlled television.

Watch for more attempts of government wanting extreme control of the Internet in the future. Bet the rent.

“Snowden is a traitor, some around folks cant grasp that fact ...as long is he also professes to hate Obama.”

Mr. Snowden exposed a massive government boondoggle that is violating the 4th amendment rights of every citizen who communicates to others through almost every medium. This type of intrusion could hardly be imagined by the founders of this country as it is exponentially worse than what the British ever attempted to impose.

It seems that you actually believe that this giant waste of resources is a legitimate means for protecting you from “terrorists”. I am not buying it... It is nothing but another grab for power over us all using every means possible. If you cannot recognize the threat that this form of tyranny is to our Republic then I think that you are the one who is having difficulty gasping the facts.

Snowden fears for an “accident” that is waiting for him. A terminal case of brain cancer or a “Hear Attack” Maybe a case of depression and self destruction. Watch as they turn this guy into the story—Not what he is reporting. they did it to Mitt Romney and won reelection—This will not end well. Snowden better take the Russian Deal and a job with the Russians—they would love to know what he does-—settle down, get married, join the Russian Church and have some kids. As long as he’s there he need fear no drone strike.

There are cameras on every intersection and in every store in America.

While they are recording EVERYTHING, they only review this stuff when there is just cause.

Uhh, Yeah right... Did you forget to use the Sarcasm tag? So if Obama found out through illegitimate means (such as through sealed court records) that one of his political opponents had some type of vulnerability he would never use it for his advantage? Check Obama’s political history if you want to find the answer to that question.

Google and the grocery store and the credit bureaus, all three of them, are watching you because they want to sell you something. They don’t get much luck with me, I can tell you, maybe with you they’re not wasting their precious resources, I dunno, but the gummint watches us to know how we vote, how we’re going to vote, when and where we’re going to protest and how. ....if you cant accept the security of the Country comes first and you are unwilling to have this traitor make his case under the rule of law..then I simply cannot suffer such foolishness..

So you actually believe that collecting “metadata” on every law abiding citizen in the country and recording every phone call, email, and every other form of electronic communication makes the country more secure? Because that is where we are headed with this thing. Because I do not believe that mindlessly accepting this unimaginable violation of our 4th amendment rights makes any of us more secure.

Exponentially increasing the amount of data collected on absolutely everyone does not make it easier for law enforcement, intelligence agencies, or the military to do their jobs. Massive amounts of data is no substitute for common sense and good intelligence or police work. What massive amounts of data is useful for is oppressing political opponents. We have seen in other recent scandals that Obama and his cronies are willing to use data collected by government agencies against their political opponents... and they already have.

Your position is not that of a conservative who believes in the constitution and opposes tyranny. It has more in common with low information Obama supporters.
