In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

logomachy \loh-GOM-uh-kee\ , noun
1. a dispute about or concerning words.
2. an argument or debate marked by the reckless or incorrect use of words; meaningless battle of words.
3. a game played with cards, each bearing one letter, with which words are formed.

Example sentences:
Their logomachy was far more stimulating to his intellect than the reserved and quiet dogmatism of Mr. Morse.
-- Jack London, Martin Eden, 1909

By happenstance or design, Conrad has fashioned in Heart of Darkness alogomachy, or battle of words.
-- Theodore Billy, A Wilderness of Words, 1997

Etymology:
Logomachy comes from the Greek word logomachia from the roots logo- meaning "words" and machy meaning "fighting."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I have it on good authority that logomachy is all about string theory.

Entertaining? Entertaining!!!??? I’ve always thought of myself as loved by women, respected by men and a man for all seasonings.

Maybe I have it backwards, respected by women, etc.??? Nah, some women just DO NOT understand the jumbo garlic as a remedy for bad breath and..and ...WATSON! the needle! the needle!...arrrrgggg...

Look at it this way: a lot of rain will make it easier to pull weeds.

I keep a fairly low profile on line nowdays. I come to FR most anytime that I have free time and post on a few threads. No real pattern to it just stories that catch my attention. I’ll be in and out today. Rain will be here all day. Have a Great Independence Day! I have to run some errands, later.

And it’s a great day to watch movies, read, and knit! I am working on some grey socks for my FIL and it’s hard to stay motivated knitting drab colors.

LOVE the article on George M. Cohan. I’ve sent it to our daughter, the music teacher.

Just remember the rule about quilts: you have to have drab colors and blocks to make the beautiful ones stand out! It’s the same about music: you have to have some people be the audience for the talented ones to perform.
