WASHINGTON (CBSDC) A new study finds that longtime marijuana use lowers motivation and reward-seeking behavior as the brain produces less dopamine.
In a small sample test, researchers in the United Kingdom scanned the brains of 19 long-term marijuana smokers along with 19 nonusers of the same age and sex, measuring the distribution of chemicals throughout the brain via positron emission tomography.
Marijuana smokers were found to produce less of the feel good chemical dopamine than their counterparts over time.

I couldn’t motivate myself to read past the headline.
Reward seeking behavior?
It took a scientific study to figure that out?
I wonder if they mean, a job.
No need for a million dollar government "study."
I could have told them that from my own past experience.
That’s him. He’d have us believe he’s Maui Wowee but I think it’s more of an african strain.
I’m 68, nearly. When I was in college we already called the weed suckers ‘dead-heads’ because they had no motivation for succeeding at anything. Most flunked out of college using the ‘I’m oppressed by the man’ mantra as their excuse for their uselessness.
Reward seeking behavior?
Well, I guess the Muslim Boston bomb terrorist make the grade since government gave them and their families hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax paid rewards..
They say that marijuana kills your motivation, but I don’t believe that.
It’s just that when you’re stoned, you realize it’s just not worth the freakin’ effort.
And it took a group of egghead researchers, probably with a ton of government grant money, to figure out what everybody else knew all along.
“You’re losing all your highs and lows, ain’t it funny how the feeling goes away....?”
19 users and 19 non users? I hope they don’t call this science.
Wow, what a study. Anybody that isn’t a stoner could have told them that...
I wonder if they meant job performance?
I would guess most everyone in govenrment would totally fail here..
But they get tax paid raises anyway, don't they?
...they had no motivation for succeeding at anything...
There’s different kinds of weed, vis-à-vis, their effects.
There’s “Working Weed”, which is highly motivational. Good for lifting weights, working around the house, tossing the Frisbee etc.
Then, there is “Chillin’ Weed”.
Good for reading, listening to music, sexual intercourse, contemplating one’s navel etc.
Then, of course, there is Scotch Whiskey. Completely legal, readily available and....what were we talking about?
Oh gee, they just figured that out?
Why not? An N of 38 is acceptable depending on the variance of the test metrics.
Um, I’ve never needed any ‘help’ for sexual intercourse. Worst thing about weed is that it’s illegal. But it does have a few other side effects which I avoid, so I’ve stayed away from the stuff. As to the scotch, well, I drank an entire fifth of J&B 8 year old on my 21st birthday. Haven’t been able to even smell the stuff since then. Having spent time as a bartender in college, I am a light social drinker ... I never drink in the dark and tend to get social when I imbibe.
“19 users and 19 non users? I hope they dont call this science”
thanks for that; though in here it likely falls on deaf ears
19 users? 19 non users? That’s not a study, that’s my neighborhood block party!
Gambling at “Rick’s”? “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!”
Mau Mau-y Wowie
Probably should have compared the dope smoker’s brain scans with mouse brain scans (non-dope smoking mice of course).
“19 users and 19 non users?”
Did you know that 4 out of 5 dentists surveyed recommend sugarless gum? Big study.
“Mau Mau-y Wowie”
That’s the winner!
Keep ‘em stoned and stupid...Alinsky/ Obozo
You know, this is rather surprising. One would think marijuana smokers would be so much more active and alert.
Wonder how much this stupid information cost us?
