Martha-Renee Kolleh, owner of a café in the overwhelmingly white town of Ossett in West Yorkshire, England, contends that a number of potential customers cross the threshold of her business and turn away upon discovering that she's black, according to the BBC.
Fed up with the unspoken bigotry and prejudice, she decided to confront the challenge head on by posting a warning sign on the door.
The sign on the door of Yeanon Cafe in Ossett, West Yorkshire, reads: "I am a black woman ... If you are allergic to black people, don't come in."
Martha-Renee Kolleh said some people "take a look at me and walk out".
Local councillor Tony Richardson said he was "shocked" as he did not believe racism was widespread in the town.

I was in Camden, NJ a few years ago.
Went into a local deli. I was the only non-black person.
Was told to my face we don’t serve your kind in here.
I hope the place burns to the ground in the riots after Zimmerman is acquitted.
Some people think all their problems are due to their race.
I applaud her for her guts in posting but I have walked out of a lot of restaurants in my time because I didn’t like their looks, cleanliness, odor etc.... I did walk out of one in Georgia once because of looks. All the cooks looked like ZZTop and didn’t wear a beard shield.
I don’t know. I wouldn’t leave just because the cook is black, but I wouldn’t go in a place with a sign like that.
It tells me they’ve got a chip on their shoulder and I don’t want someone with a chip on their shoulder serving me food.

Yeah, what kind of shop or restaurant doesn’t have people who walk in, look around, and leave?
Good for her. Let private business serve who they want.

This kind of stuff makes me crazy. When I was in college, there was a little BBQ place run by two old black ladies that smoked some of the best BBQ I ever ate. They loved the business and we loved them.

Well said. If they didn’t tell her why they left, how does she know it was for racial reasons? Good grief.
There was a longer story linked from MSNBC that explained that the lady had one of her white employees wait on customers one day and they made 150 pounds, but on the days that the proprietor waits on customers, she gets around 30 pounds. So she suspects it’s because of her race and not the food.
Could be on a bus stop without a public bathroom? ;-)
