NEWLY DISCOVERED PLANET HAS GLASS RAIN AND 4,500 MPH WIND
Animal New York ^ | July 11, 2013 | Andy Cush

Posted on 07/11/2013 4:24:22 PM PDT by nickcarraway

It also has atmospheric temperatures up to 2,000-degree fahrenheit. And in case you didn’t see it in the headline: Glass Rain! 4,500 MPH winds! This place sounds awesome.

NASA discovered the planet, dubbed HD 189733b, in 2005, but recently discovered new facts about its atmosphere with the Hubble telescope. The thing is only 2.9 million miles from its sun, which sounds far, but consider that Earth is 92.9 million miles away from ours. To make matters even more insane, the night temperature can be as much as 500 degrees lower than the day temperature.

I’m taking the first commercial spaceflight I can, see you guys there.

To make matters even more insane, the night temperature can be as much as 500 degrees lower than the day temperature.

But that's great! Sure, you're a little warm during the day but if you leave a window open at night you'll sleep just fine.

LOL. If you know/remember Dave Barry's definition of menopause:

This bodily change is called 'menopause', from the ancient Greek words meno (meaning "your skin sometimes gets so hot") and pause (meaning "that it melts tupperware").

so true. if only THAT energy could be contained/duplicated easily! :)

I remember reading an article about Uranus. Scientists reasoned, that with the pressure under the clouds and the carbon that must surely lie within, that the planet could have LAKES of diamonds.

Always wondered if some entrepreneur would be able to go collect them, and bring them back to earth.

Go from a billionaire to the worlds first trillionaire.

Some friends on a road trip - all women - got lost in Kansas recently.

All they were supposed to do was stay on I-70.

They took a wrong turn and got to see lots and lots of cows.

Diamonds are not rare; the high prices are due to artificial scarcity. And now we can MAKE them.

The sudden increase of volumes of diamonds on the markets would depress over all prices. The same would occur if a massive asteroid were found mostly of silver or gold, assuming it could be economically mined the same way Uranian diamonds would be.
