The quest is to clone a mammoth. The question is: should we do it?
The Guardian (UK) ^ | 7-13-2013 | Robin McKie

The idea would make headlines around the world and bring tears of joy to the planet's journalists. An adorable baby woolly mammoth, tottering on its newborn legs, is introduced to the media. Cloned from a few cells scraped from the permafrost of Siberia, the little creature provides the latest proof of the might of modern science and demonstrates the fact that extinction has at long last lost its sting.

It is a fascinating prospect, one that was raised again last week when the most recently discovered carcass of a mammoth was revealed to the public in Yokohama, Japan.

The female, thought to have been around 50 when she died, had lain frozen in the ground for tens of thousands of years. Yet she still had hair, muscle tissue, and possibly blood. Samples have now been sent to South Korea, where scientists say they are planning to use them to clone a mammoth, though the proposal is considered to be highly controversial.....

I was thinking the same thing. If it doesn’t work out then just kill it and grill it.

Mammoths went extinct because they tasted so damn good

I have no moral problem with cloning animals, present or past, but not people.

I am concerned that cloning extinct animals, plants, insects, etc. could reintroduce dangerous, extinct pathologies.

Just how big is a woolly mammoth tick filled with a pint of blood?

Now some scientists are talking openly of bringing them back to life.

What?

I am sure I saw one presiding over the Zimmerman trial.

Bring back T-Rex and the Saber Toothed Tiger, too.

McDonald mammoth burger?

Hardee's.

McD's is too "organic/healthy-eating/make-Michelle-happy" focused to advertize a Mammoth Burger these days.

It's inevitable.

Whether we "should" or not is irrelevant in that context.

Why not? I am a capitalist—if it will make money and make people happy—why not? But, first lets bring back the pasenger Pidgeon. Then the Dodo bird. We need not make many of these trowbacks —Imagine Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Baily Circus with a trained Mastadon act? It would be gold on four legs.

I’d actually like to see the Wooly Mammoth brought back from extinction, presuming they could breed and repopulate, but we’d have to get Canada or Finland on board as the habitat for these creatures. If they don’t agree, it’s just not going to work.

Here's the 1966 Network TV Schedule

There was more variety then with only three channels than there is now with 1000.

I miss those days, before they got rid of all the rural shows and started ramming their agenda down the pipe.

The quest is to clone a mammoth. The question is: should we do it?

Absolutely. And set it loose in the Capitol building. I'd love to see a gored Harry Reid being flung across the rotunda.

Clone the mammoth then release it in Tokyo as bait for Godzilla and a new movie.
