Word For The Day, Monday, July 15, 2013 – aleatory

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sisyphean; adjective 1. of or pertaining to Sisyphus. 2. endless and unavailing, as labor or a task.

Etymology:
"resembling the labors of Sisyphus," 1635, from Sisyphus, from Gk. Sisyphos, a name of unknown origin. King of Corinth, famed as "the craftiest of men," he was condemned in the afterlife to roll uphill a stone which perpetually rolls down. •

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I am spending the day with my friend’s husband while she has a day’s vacation from her sisyphean care of her husband. She gets a day with her three daughters at the lake. He has a feeding tube and I will have to assist him throughout the day with food and water. Her husband is a very pleasant man, so no big chore for me. He has COPD and is on oxygen. Just making a pit stop here to check on Buffy, due back there by 10:30.

I am still grinning about the verdict. The rest is just icing on the cake. Let them all squeak like greased pigs. Does my heart good to get a win now and then. Restores my faith in this country, truth be told.

We’re just happy to have a thread. If anyone complains about its appearance, they just volunteered to take a day hosting it.

I was working on a bid off and on, but I’m at a halt until I get some info from a company...

If the idiots in Washington
Would do as the people ask
Keeping body and soul together
Wouldn’t be a Sisyphean task

Instead of just butting out
So market and nature can rule
They just stir the Roman mob
Till all DC looks the fool

They don’t see the money is gone
As their mob continues to shout-
Let’s all hide and watch the show
As the masses figure that out...

Nasty work - Thank you for helping the family (both patient and wife!) out though. 8<)

Wasn’t it Hercules who diverted a river to wipe out the sishityphean mess from those stables? Seems to me we would need an entire Missippisisyphean flood to clean out Washington’s mess.

Last night we had our Fourth of July fireworks at the park after the concert. This is the song the band opened with to get everyone going.

I caught part of Cavuto’s show w/Varney substituting, and he had Florida gov Scott on, and he sounded like a world class wuss-Varney was asking him about Holder’s likely continued meddling in the Zimmerman/Martin case, and he just kept saying “think of the parents, tragedy, 17 year old boy, parents’ hearts broken, boo hoo, poor parents of Trayvon”, dodge, dodge-you’d think he was elected apologist of Florida-not governor-I’m not up on Florida-does anyone know what that is about?
