SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) California may become the first state to issue digital license plates that can be registered electronically and record tolls. Privacy advocates are concerned the plates could become tracking devices for law enforcement.
Instead of a metal license plate, the digital plate would be a computer screen, slightly larger than an iPad. Registering the plates could be done wirelessly.

Essential step in moving to a per-mile tax
“hacking could be done just as easily I’ll BET!!”
Precisely what I was going to write.
Instead of a metal license plate, the digital plate would be a computer screen, slightly larger than an iPad.
Gee, that will stand up to the weather.....
Ah, the old James Bond license changeable plate, only digital. Q would be so happy.
How many prisoners will this put out of work?
I suspect these can be used to monitor speed to send data to the Highway Patrol or just to issue you a computer generated speeding ticket.
Imagine the revenue that could be generated if every time you exceeded the speed limit, a $500 ticket would be sent to your home.
I don’t think I ever drive the speed limit. My understanding is that speed limits are for those who don’t have rear view mirrors or those who can’t spot a radar trap a half mile ahead.
They’ll cost $1000 each.
And the ticketing ability is just small potatoes compared to the ability to track movement of all individuals....any individual. Add that to email, phone call, and text data, and you have the capacity to fully monitor or to fully manipulate any individual.
Made In CHINA of course.
what a DEAL...
what heppnes when they inevitably CRASH?
a SUPER TICKET will be issued ....deducting that 1ooo bucks out of your Bank Account.
could this have been JERRY BROWNS “idea”?
Theyll cost $1000 each.
But at least that is not a “poll tax”....
Unlike a 5-10 dollar charge for an ID card...
“It’s All For Your Convenience”
wow, In searching for the Name of a 1984 Agency I may have encountered the most bizarrely coincidental dead en yet.
You don’t have permission to access /search.php on this server.
Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at george-orwell.org Port 80
and shut your car down for unpaid tickets
and perhaps even program a convenient accident were they so inclined
It’s Minitrue, don’t forget to use your Newspeak.
Yeah, because aluminum plates with reflective paint aren’t nearly expensive enough.
Good grief, the stupid in CA knows no boundaries.
I’m beginning to experience a real crisis in LOCATION..LOCATION..LOCATION.. as I currently live in the Not So Golden State.
perhaps the state legislators will wait until this is FEDERALLY MANDATED..by Executive Order!!
Try will. And nobody and nothing will stop them.
Game over Liberty, game over.
were they so inclined ....
Note: It looks like it will have a tracking device on it and the average citizen can not just read the plate very well at all.
