...fine for grooming my dogs in the park to help them keep cool
DailyMail ^ | 9 July 2013 | Luke Salkeld

Like any thoughtful citizen, Tracey Hayes always stops to pick up stray crisp packets and sweet wrappers in her local park without expecting any thanks.

But when she paused to brush away some excess fur from her two dogs while she was walking there, the jobsworths pounced – and handed her a £50 fine for littering.

Two council wardens told Mrs Hayes, 46, she had committed an offence after they spotted her brushing her golden retriever Biskit and German shepherd Rocky.

Snipped title:A £50 litter fine for grooming my dogs in the park to help them keep cool on one of the hottest days of the year

Sorry Tracey....you were being irresponsible for not cleaning up.

Tracey Hayes is not the first victim of over-zealous council officials.

Earlier this week it emerged a woman was fined £75 after she fed a piece of pastry from a pasty to a pigeon and then binned the packet in Bolton town centre.

The council has since backed down over the fine. In 2009, Vanessa Kelly, 26, was fined £75 for feeding bread to ducks with her toddler in Smethwick, West Midlands.

The year before, Sarah Davies was issued with a £75 fine for dropping a piece of sausage roll while feeding it to her young daughter.

A judge hearing her appeal in Hull later threw the case out

I live out in the country and I still groom the dog away from the house and yard.

Because it leaves such a mess of hair flying around.

We just use a paper shopping bag to put it in...easy enuf with a little forethought.

Might build a few Lab puppies from the fur.

It sounds like she didn’t “offer” to clean up her mess until after she was in the car ready to drive off and had been caught.

Uh, hair is a natural substance. Many animals use it in their nests. Furthermore, virtually all furry animals shed hair, so nature is full of it.

Living in Britain must be like living in a minefield. If the yobs don’t get you, the police will.

I don’t consider pet hair to be litter.

When I brush my cats I put the hair out for the birds to use as nesting material.

The birds do use the hair. I have found nest blown out of trees after a storm with the cat hair incorporated in to the nest.

Exactly. If the petty tyrants don’t want dogs in parks, they should prohibit them.

We do have to be careful, although I agree about pet hair. I also feel that way about food items — we throw bread and bad fruit into the woods for the animals to eat.

But dog poop is also natural, and I don’t want it left lying around in parks. I do think bagging it up and throwing it away to be buried in landfills is a waste though.

Have a good sized piece of land and a large compost pile where I dump my doggy do.

He pretty much dumps exclusively in my yard.

I chucked a banana peel out the car window onto the grass median last week. Probably a felony offense in England.

One of my Ibizans had sort of longish hair and the birds would patiently wait in the walnut tree while I brushed her and then tossed them hair balls.

They had the coziest nests around.

When I groomed the horses, the hair didn’t stay around very long at all.

Birds snatched it up as fast as I could pull it out of the comb.

Birds used to sit on my gramma’s cows and pluck out their shedding hair in the spring.

This is so stupid.

If I had my way, some little nazi teeth would be littering the park as well.

“People do shed hair and the normal rate is normally around 50 to 100 hairs a day. However, some seasons or simply seasonal changes can trigger hair shedding to occur even faster due to anagen cyclical phase.”

Bureaucrat thugs are all over. The town council needs to assign the people writing tickets like this to patrol abandoned warehouses on midnight shift since they don’t behave reasonably.
