One of my co-workers was in Alaska 3 weeks ago, ironically on the very same ship I'll be on starting Saturday.

This co-worker (female) is VERY picky about everything. Very demanding to work with also. So I know when she raves about something, it has to be good.

She raved about Princess' Diamond Sapphire ship. Loved the food, the staff, service, etc.. Couldn't say enough good things.

Now the last cruise the wife and I were on (22 years ago for our 5th Anniversary) was when Disney still had the "Big Red Boat's." We did a 4 day cruise to the Bahama's.

Couldn't say enough good things about Disney's "big red boat" and the wonderful service we received. (forget the fact that the Bahama's are a ghetto islands.) I just hope the service is as good as Disney's was back then .....

No, not kidding. It was a splurge. I wanted to go with a smaller cruise

It had good reviews....but now ...not so excited about booking with them.

Princess is my personal favorite, and being Italian has nothing to do with it..(eyeroll) I’ve been a fan since it was Sitmar Cruises.. The LOVE BOAT IS MY BOAT.. :)

You might can answer this:

I saw an old WWII sub movie & the cook had supplies stowed in every nook & cranny of the boat at departure. Is this true?

I'm guessing the cruise ship lacks sufficient, proper storage for all the necessary food for the duration of the voyage. Most ships restock during port calls, but that might be difficult/expensive in Alaska. Management might be trying to keep costs down by stocking stores in the lower 48 where prices are much cheaper than in Alaska.

OTOH, maybe the captain uses the storage room as a man cave or sex dungeon.

I pity the poor crewman who kept a case of Twinkies under his bunk - they are history.

military submarines probably are crammed with food on launch because they stay at sea so long

No, but having spent seven years on submarines I’ll bet they’re luxurious.

Another reason why I joined the Air Force about 28 years ago!

Floor of berthing was lined with cans, square five gallon containers of flour and coffee (grade B) stuffed in the main engine frames, and that was on a modern 688 class boat. If you had a bottom bunk you could literally roll right from your mattress to the one across from you (which is why it was important to put the straps up).

"Spectacular New Zealand fiords and Australia’s Outback are but two of the unforgettable destinations encountered aboard Silver Shadow cruises during 2013.

Er have they realized the relationship of the Outback and the ocean?

That is quite a splurge.

The big ships don’t really seem all that big when you are on them. I’m sure your cabin will be very nice, but you won’t be spending much time in it.

If you want to sit and watch the ocean, The Hotel Del Coronado is fabulous.

For the price you probably paid, you can take two cruises with Princess and get a suite.

For those wanting a cruise at a deep discount, check out vacationstogo.com

Do you have a restaurant in the greater Houston area?

Try Princess Cruises ships that have a 4.5 star or better rating. You will be pleased with your choice.

Go to vacationstogo.com to find a cruise. Never book way in advance.

If you qualify for an airline discount because you have a child that works for a scheduled airline, check out perx.com if you can go on short notice.
