10 former American Idol contestants have filed a lawsuit against the show, and are seeking damages of $25 million dollars each.
The lawsuit stems from a letter submitted in January by New York City lawyer James H. Freeman on behalf the 10 contestants to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The letter cited cruel and inhumane treatment, claiming that Idols producers have only publicly disqualified 10 contestants in the shows history, all of whom were black.
Freeman also claimed that the show illegally dredged up arrest records to make the black contestants appear to be violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants, further perpetuating destructive stereotypes.
Waaaah, waaaah, waaah, racists cry racism everywhere they go, waaaah, waaaah, waaaah.
They are Trayvon - just because it was discovered that they are seedy low-lifers is no reason to act differently towards them...It is their “right” to reap the benefits of an entity that they cheapen by being associated with it.
“Didnt a black woman win last years American Idol?”
I don’t know about last year, but several black people have won. I remember Ruben Studdard (sp?) - who beat Clay Aiken (white, southern, gay) and whom I loved and also Fantasia (a black gal) who was also great.
And of course there’s Jennifer Hudson, who didn’t win, but who has had a fantastic career, although how much credit Idol gets for that I couldn’t judge.
Reminds one of a Mad TV skit in which the guy complained to his date about racism. Paraphrasing: “I’m an octaroon; that’s one eighth black!” “Applied for a job the other day as a research microbiologist. They said I didn’t have an advanced degree. We all know that’s codeword for octaroon!”
Is it ever going to end? Every failure that black people experience is the result of racism. Reminds me of the time I was waiting on line at a bagel shop and this black guy in front of me ordered a bagel and coffee with sugar, and when he got the coffee he tasted it and realized it had no sugar. So what did he say? “Yo, you put no sugar in that, prolly on purpose cause you a racist mofo”.. Yes, racism racism racism! It’s everywhere!
They are if they be black. Where you been?
Yes, the contestants are required to disclose arrests and convictions. I also believe that the entertainment company informs them that there may be a background check and the consequences if they lie.
There have been contestants with arrest records that have stayed until they were voted off. There was a female contestant in one of the early years that had an arrest record. If I remember correctly she had been shoplifting. However, she disclosed the arrest, conviction, etc. on her application.
Damn, don’t you people understand that as a black I am to be pandered to and given consideration for the fact that I may be a heir to the slave era. Time for some to grow up and understand that they have an obligation to do their best to take advantage of the opportunities this country has to offer, not cry foul every time they do not get their way.
Yes, Candice Glover, after the show stuffed the top ten (the contestants who get voted on by the public,) with blacks, Hispanics, and gay boys who weren't very good singers. Previous to Candice, six out of the last seven winners had been white, heterosexual males. The show was obviously determined that wouldn't happen again last year, so they didn't let any straight white males into the top ten. Now Candice's sales are lower than any previous Idol winner's. But hey, the show can pat itself on the back for being PC.
Yet, all of America KNEW when the first openly gay contestant was chosen that he would ultimately win that season. (FWIW, I still don’t think he’s homosexual...he just found a schtick.)
If anything, they should sue for “orientation” not race.
Since when is it illegal to "dredge up" arrest records? It would seem to me that their BEHAVIOR made them appear to be violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants; otherwise why would they HAVE an arrest record?
Exactly what we and the honest blacks have known all along.
When did an openly gay man win idol? I don’t think that ever happened. Clay and Adam didn’t win.
This whole lawsuit seems to be about people who were removed from the contest because of criminal conduct. We’re there white contestants who had the same background, yet didnt get removed? If not, then there is no racism involved.
LMBO!!
Well, this is one of the more creative gambits a scumbag lawyer has come up with.
New York City lawyer James H. Freeman alias “Algonquin J. Calhoun”!
