PYONGYANG North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un unveiled Saturday a renovated Korean War museum with a US-baiting centrepiece in the form of the spy ship USS Pueblo, captured in 1968.
Kim, wearing his trademark black Mao suit, cut the red ribbon on the monumental Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum after inspecting an honour guard in front of thousands of war veterans and invited foreign guests.
Entering the museum's main doors, the first sight greeting visitors is a four-metre high coloured statue of what looks remarkably like Kim, but turns out to be a youthful representation of his grandfather and the nation's founder Kim Il-Sung.
Much of the museum collection is a paean to Kim Il-Sung's strategic battlefield brilliance -- credited with bettering the might of the US military in the Korean War.
The 1950-53 conflict essentially ended with North and South Korea occupying the same territory they held at the start, but the 1953 armistice is celebrated in the North as "Victory Day".
The museum opening coincided with the 60th anniversary of the ceasefire, which was never cemented with a treaty, leaving the two Koreas still technically at war.
Giant statues aside, the main draw of the museum is the USS Pueblo, berthed on the river bank next to the main museum building.

and they milk its propaganda value for 50 years... really sad.
In WWII it was a US Army ship and was transferred to the US Navy in 1966.
The title does imply the ship is 60 years old. Hey, what can I say? I just copy and paste. :)
we should wait until the next thing the do that is really stupid and go take it back.
just to show we can
PUNK A$$ LITTLE chunks of diarrhea. They got some country goin there where their biggest point of interest is a dented 60 yr old tub....They spend their time lecturing visitors and re painting an ancient hunk of rust while their children starve....pathetic slimeballs...
And still today, we get the “Hawaiian Peace symbol” when we ask about a certain birth certificate.
“To me it feels like it happened in 1968.
:-)

...when North Korean is a reunited under a free capitalistic, Democratic Korean state.
Don’t forget the crew member who was killed during this event. In the late 80s I was in school to do what he did. We were told the marines on board shot him to keep him from being captured.
There was a video on Youtube about the “Vice Guide to North Korea” that took that tour with their hidden camera
Stephen Decatur destroyed a captured US warship in the hands of Moroccan pirates. Why can’t we accidentally have a drone hit the Pueblo.
What would be fascinating is this. Get a CIA operative in as part of a tour group. Plant a bomb under the water line. Set the bomb to go off at a week later at three in the morning.
Then have the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration blame the explosion on moon flares, or underwater whirlpools, or something like that.
You mean like the Smithsonian ?
lol
‘Its a propaganda tour. They make you hear lectures and watch video about how evil America is, right there on the boat
I get that, but it would come off as just a joke to any sane person.’
Why are you so anxious to make cash contributions to Communist totalitarians? If you want to see evil personified, go to Germany and visit some of the former POW camps.
I was in Navy boot camp when the crew was released 12/23/1968.
Another part of the Johnson/McNamara Legacy is PUEBLO was blindsided going into deteriorating conditions known too other but it wasn't warned about. NK knew she was coming. The mission had been compromised and should have been aborted by the Pentagon before PUEBLO got into risk.
You can not do this kind of an E'D without sufficient explosives. Setting the ship on fire won't do it. Navy ships are built too float not sink.
It doesn't matter it wasn't classified combat it was carrying classified information and as such there should have been means to achieve destruction of same in short order.
