BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday were investigating an attempted burglary and the stabbing of a family dog at an east San Fernando Valley home.

The incident, which was caught on home surveillance video, occurred at a home in the 1500 block of Myer Street around 4 a.m. on July 26, Burbank police said.

The homeowners, Todd and Jillian Kelly, were out of town on an anniversary trip when they were contacted by their daughter and a neighbor who said the family dog had been wounded, but didn’t know how.

When the couple arrived home, they noticed several items had been moved in their backyard, Todd Kelly said.

“That led to something more sinister. At that point, I checked the camera,” he said.

Surveillance footage showed two Black males roaming his property.

“You could see one in a hoodie that jumped over my neighbor’s wall and peered into my daughter’s window,” Kelly added. “I think they were trying to steal tools.”

Kelly said at this point, his dog Abbey, a German Shorthaired Pointer, heard a noise and went to investigate.

“The dog startles the intruder and gets stabbed,” he said.

Abbey suffered two puncture wounds, requiring stitches.

Kelly’s 18-year-old daughter was also home at the time of the incident but was not injured.

Burbank police have obtained the security video and have dusted the property for fingerprints.

The suspect in the hoodie also had mustache. The second suspect was seen on tape wearing a baseball hat and a light colored shirt and appeared to be driving a SUV.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the suspects’ identity was urged to contact the Burbank Police Department.

Shorthaired Pointers are fairly docile hunting dogs.

Dunno. I think I’d rather tangle with a wounded Odin than a grieving Salamander...
