Pope Francis called on Friday for mutual respect between Christianity and Islam and an end to unfair criticism in a personal message congratulating Muslims on the feast of Eid al-Fitr.
We are called to respect the religion of the other, its teachings, its symbols, its values, he said in a statement distributed by the Vatican press office.

I’ll respect muslims when I see “Coexist” bumper stickers on cars in Riyadh.
Some believe the Pope to be infallible.
I disagree in this case.
He is simply urging-not predicting or guarenteeing.
For me, it's when I see mushroom clouds rising from mecca and medina during ramadama ding dong month.
this clown thought we forgot about 9/11, tsk tsk
Sorry... no can do.
I had hope until recently.
He can make this appeal because the “peaceful” Muslims has not yet beheaded him.
I agree. Overall I am happy with this pope, but this is too wishy washy. Islam religion needs to be much more assertive in blasting the terrorism way of life before I agree with the pope on this subject.
” ... called for mutual respect
Oh ... that’ll get the muslims to show respect for others.<sarcasm
I believe this Pope is a Holy fellow who would like to see good in everything.
There is no good in Islam.
FYI, the pope is only infallible in select cases. There have only been two infallible statements by popes in all of history.
Frankly, in this, the Pope is nuts.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is the Christian faith called to respect a false religion
Not true. The church holds that the Pope is infallible on matters of faith and morals only, and then only under certain formal conditions. Any Pope throwing his opinions around does not make church policy.
Implicitly stating they are Equivalent or to put it another way respect the Islamic lies? PC hits the Vatican.
the religion of “THE OTHER”!
Papa, do you know what you said?
uh yeah but NO
‘We are called to respect the religion of the other, its teachings, its symbols, its values’’
The statement he made is not about not predicting. It is very specific....I will never respect teachings that call Jews apes and non-believers killable
no but one of those peaceful muslims tried to kill a previous pope...I guess history is not this pope’s strong suit
Maybe he meant respect in the sense that one should have respect for a dangerous animal. Like, the don’t-rush-in-where-angels-fear-to-tread kind of respect.
Other than that, I got nothing.
you are obviously a more kind and generous person than I
It is time to eradicate Islam, Your Holiness.
Find a Christian King who will take the war to them.
Christianity proposes that the world will one day bend knee as one to the Messiah (Christos is just the Greek name for M.) but that day will come at some indefinite time through persuasive conversion and the manifest divinity He will bring with Him. Only one major religion, in its open core philosophy, insists that anyone who doesn't go along with their program tout suite suffer execution or enslavement till they die.
Unless one is a coward willing to do anything to cling to life at the cost of soul and dignity it's ultimately impossible to coexist with these people. Temporary coexistence will only work until they have numbers in their favor and work up the chutzpah to put the knife to your throat.
He doesn’t have to worry about the Christian side of the equation.
The Pope is believed to be "infallible" only in certain specific situations...not *always*.I don't think this qualifies as one of those situations.
Okay, Muslims, as a Christian I’m all for this mutual respect thing.
You go first.
This Pope has a bad case of running at the mouth. He has picked one controversial topic after another to equivocate about or appear to take a social justice in the bad sense of the word position. It verges on liberation theology. This is why prior to a new Pope being elected, I was arguing against hiring a Latin American Pope or a candidate from any third world country, and my worst fears are being realized. I want Pope Benedict back!!!!!
