Not quite xeriscape-just drought tolerant-the hill country alternates wet cycles with dry cycles, depending on the jet stream and sun cycle, so I’m told. We are in what appears to be the last part of a dry period. Most of the native plants are not cacti or succulents, except for the Opuntia/prickly pear.

What kind of locust trees-honey locust, black locust? Some people plant locust trees here, but they don’t do well, because they are meant for a cooler climate-I don’t know what kind they are, though. One man’s trash tree is a desired one in another state...

i wouldn’t know black locust from a regular locust, so i truly can’t say. My dad would know, if he were still alive! i grew up in the woods and can identify a number of trees, sassafras, maple, oak, etc. but not this one.

It has small leaves, fragrant flowers in Spring, and thorns-looks like an acacia bush to me, but it is a tree-I don’t know which locust it is, either-I just know some people plant it as an ornamental tree-it doesn’t like the climate or soil, so I really don’t see the sense in planting it here, myself.

Does it have thorns? Here's a honey locust ID guide.

We do battle with sumac. They pop up everywhere and grow like crazy. I have a spot in my yard where we once tried to start some “butterfly friendly” plants. Its mostly sumac now. I just chopped down about 20 of them, all new this year. Its not very strong and it smells, but it goes from weed to small tree in no time.

You can find a leaf guide online to determine what it was.

Quite the opposite. It looks like the national group is caving and the Cleveland group is doubling down.

After reading that thread I wonder how we’ll ever win another election again.

What a bunch of jackasses.
