Paula Deen Turned Down Dancing With the Stars Offer
US Magazine ^ | 08/07/2013 | ZACH JOHNSON

Paula Deen is passing on the paso doble. In the Aug. 19 issue of Us Weekly (on stands Friday), a Dancing With the Stars source says the former Food Network star, 66, turned down an offer to compete on the ABC smash.

"The dance floor is not the appropriate forum for her," explains a Deen source. (The Paula's Best Dishes host was dropped by the Food Network in June after she admitted to once using the N-word during a videotaped deposition. The Southern star has also lost multiple endorsement deals.)

Professional dancer Cheryl Burke has also expressed interest in casting Deen, saying in June, "Right now, lots of controversial things are happening around her and her situation, and I think coming on something light and fun would be good for her."

Season 17 of Dancing With the Stars returns Monday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. Unlike previous seasons, there will be no results show on Tuesday nights. The new cast will be announced Sept. 4 on Good Morning America.

She wasn't wild about her proposed dancing partner.

Seems like a bad decision by Deen. Dancing With The Stars does a great job of personalizing its contestants, and would likely help rehabilitate her image. My wife watched DWTS and I found myself finding Nancy Grace somewhat likable when she was on the show. Then I returned to my senses.

Robert Guillaume is 85, and I believe he’s had a stroke.
Should make for some interesting tango dips.

It sure didn’t hurt Kelli Pickler’s career. In fact, it enhanced it.

First, DWTS is just more TV crap broadcast in place of actual programming with a story and characters we can get involved with.

Second, I agree with Ms. Deen. Appearing on a dreck TV show will only cement the perception that she is grasping for anything that will improve her reputation.

Good for her!

I have seen this show exactly ONCE.

My dryer was broken and I had to go to the laudromat, where this was what they had on. Was the night Hines Ward won his title.

DWTS is not about accomplishment. It’s all about viewer voting to add to the judges score. It should be judge only.

I don't mind that she turned it down, however considering the circumstances she probably shouldn't have given the reason as "I'm just too old to be shuckin' and jivin' on national TV like some teenage n***er!"

(Rimshot! Thank you I'll be here all night!)

It got her a gig at the Stephenson County Fair.

And its a lot of work. I recall the snarky comments when Sarah Palin's daughter appeared on the show.

BTW, Too bad Walmart dropped her products. I loved Deen's butter cake, which was the only reason I go to Walmart.

A tv show for people with no Y chromosomes or Y chromosomes that are on strike.

I have seen this show exactly ONCE.

And, with all the seasons this dreck has been on, you haven't missed a thing!

It should be judge only.

It should go the way of ethics and morals in politicians!!

These shows aren’t the problem. The real problem would be the people who watch them. The only real competition left in this country is the constant struggle to reduce the least common denominator to a number less than zero.

It has done more than that for her career. Some on here are the most negative people I’ve ever read. She also has a new single out which is doing quite well.
