Merlin Media has sold News/Talk "IQ 106.9" WWIQ Philadelphia to EMF Broadcasting. More details coming... (see below for more)
More details coming. WWIQ is “iq106.9” which runs Rush, Imus, Beck, Hannity etc. EMF: (Wiki) “Educational Media Foundation (also known as EMF Broadcasting, or just simply EMF) is a not-for-profit organization that operates the K-LOVE and Air1 radio networks. EMF is based in Rocklin, California.”
(Christian radio)
Stay tuned...
A post from the Philly board of radiodiscussions
by Pab Subgenus:
“Obviously, the current format disappears. (Imus was obviously a last minute cost cutting measure to make the place look more profitable before selling.) EMF will move in one of their two Christian formats. CBS will not pick Limbaugh and Hannity back up, nor am I sure Premiere would want to bring them back there. Do they cut a deal with Salem to put them on WNTP? Or blow up one of their own signals for Rush Radio? Really, only 106.1 and 104.5 would make sense switching, and those would be a stretch.”

At the end of April last year, WWIQ made its first on-air presence in Philadelphia. Nearly 16 months later, I have the uncomfortable and poignant task of letting the staff, our clients and advertisers and our listeners know that Merlin Media has accepted an offer from EMF (Educational Media Foundation) to purchase the station and the 106.9 signal. Over the next few months, IQ106.9 will continue to run its broadcast and daily operations will continue as usual until the final closing between the two companies. I am sure we will get tons of reaction from the community and the ratings will likely reach an all-time high. I appreciate everyone involved in the station and wish EMF the very best success in launching their new format in Philadelphia.
via Pab Sugenus on radiodiscussions; I inserted the frequencies. CC = Clear Channel
>>Looking at CC’s stations in Philly:
WDAS-FM - Not going to flip. (105.3)
WIOQ - Possible, but unlikely. (102.1)
WISX - Most likely to flip. (106.1)
WRFF - Second most likely. (104.5)
WDAS (AM) - Third most likely, but CC wants Rush Radio on FM. (1480)
WUSL - Not going to flip. (98.9)

>>You can own 8 in Philly as long as no more than 5 are in the same band. So, they can acquire an AMer.
I’ll stick with my prediction. CBS unloads 610 to Clear Channel, exits the political talk business, and puts the Sports Network plus local play by play on 1210.
Clear Channel brings Beck, Rush, and Hannity to 610.
Clear Channel is not going to flip any of its FMers to an old skewing talk format. All 5 of them are doing well.
I agree about the FM’s.I get 610 really clear and I hope they land there.Wish this news was not true .A few months ago I heard rumor of it.
Yes..and now someone is saying on the radio board they don’t think CBS would sell 610 to Clear Channel, they would keep it as is. Who knows, but Clear Channel wants these shows on air in Philly—would people have to try and pick them up from stations in NJ, Del., whatever...we’ll see.
Stinks.
I hope not. 610 signal is pretty weak. Often it cannot be picked up inside buildings at all and it won't reach the shore. Even outdoors just 5 miles outside the city I would get a clear signal but with static on radios without an antenna.
