No need for psychedelic substances: The cultural milieu at the week-long annual art festival known as Burning Man is enough to alter your mind.

Research published in the scientific journal Frontiers in Emotion Science in July found that an individual’s social and cultural environment influenced how they controlled their emotional responses

what is the carbon footprint of Burning Man? They burn a stick figure of a man there, spewing pollutants into the atmosphere. And they leave lots of trash behind. How are they being good liberals and good caretakers of mother earth, by staging this festival????

There’s no trash left behind, it isn’t one of those Rainbow Family gatherings. Pack it in, pack it out.

They actually leave NO trash behind, AFAIK, they have been real anal retentive about making the place spotless so the BLM/forestry folks don’t get an excuse to can it.

I believe that their good stewardship is what was behind their allowed numbers to be increased this year.

Why is it that liberals have such an insatiable need to control everything and everyone?

I'd say Burning Man's days are numbered.

It was probably great, when few people knew about it.

But, when it gets to the point where you have a bunch of pencil-necked geeks with clipboards showing up to study people,
it's probably over.

Been at the Utah location since 1990. Been articles about it for years. From what I have read it is something I would avoid like the plague.

Compared to Islam and National Socialist (’rat) Kulture, it’s not a risk to those who don’t “imbibe”.

"it is something I would avoid like the plague"

It's not my cup of tea either. But, my point is, why do liberals have to have "a study" of this?

They can't leave anyone alone to do their own thing. They just have to be all up in everyone's business.

From what I've read, the whole point of having this thing in the desert, is so participants can be away from society, and do whatever they want to do.

I have no problem with it, so long as they don't hurt anyone, and clean up after themselves.

But no, here come the lab coats ready to conduct a psychological study.

And why are they having a study?

They are having a study because they want to make sure that they can control absolutely everyone.

Every single last person must be controlled-Even a bunch of dope-smoki'n pseudo-hippies, partying out in the desert.
( Who probably just love our current radical leftist-marxist government, and have no clue what it's really about.)

I’ve only been once, about to go to my second. But yes, I have the feeling its days are numbered, just because of critical mass. It’s too popular, too expensive, crowded with RV’s, somehow commercial despite no commerce allowed onsite. I think the Wasteland Weekend offers more of the “controlled chaos” that BM used to.

I’ve been DJing at Burning Man for years..it is mostly libs but I have run into a few conservatives like myself out there. The camp I stay with is run by the founder of Monster.com, so yes there is big money out there...I have met the google founders there as well.

It really is a unique event unlike anything else in the world.

Out of curiosity, does it bother you guys that there are going to be psychologists there watching you?

Met a photographer last year who turned out to be a supply side Econ professor. Had a nice convo over lunch with his wife. Lots of wannabe hippies indeed, but more artists and mad scientists, which is more the point. Where do you spin?

I spose the fools doing the study got paid, probably from tax money.

It’s obvious if you hang out in the sewer you start thinking like a sewer rat. No need for scientific studies. Mob mentality, too.

No more than I worry about the heavy law enforcement presence watching me. I doubt they’ll learn much just by observing, they’ll probably need volunteers to complete surveys. The event already has a voluntary census of attendees, I imagine it would be something like that.
