Were you born to be obese?

"From previous studies, it is estimated that 40% to 70% of a person's BMI is inherited," Batterham says, but it's complex and not as simple as just giving a percent.

Overall, the role of any single gene [in obesity] is not big, Qi says. However, if all the obesity-related genes are considered, “the effect would be sizable."

what?

more folks now born to be fat...lol...we are Obese Nation

and black and Mexican women...good lord...I bet 70% over age 30 are tech obese

just more rationalization to excuse lack of personal discipline

why is obesity more common amongst lower class?

see a lot of fat goal oriented achievers this side of Ailes or formerly Mr Nicotine Stained Fingers...and Rush admits it’s discipline

purely coincidence..pfft

I was born to be thin then i passed 30 and had to watch it

it’s just how it is unless you are a really hyper foot patter

burn less than you eat and get fat

im 6’5” and 230...not skinny but nowhere near obese

wifey is a buxom 5 foot and 107...bout right

man I’d weight 500 pounds I ate all i wanted

and it would be my fault same as I sat on the couch and smoked Sour Diesel all day

or drank to excess

or cheated on the old lady

etc

Because carbs have long shelf life and are cheap to produce.

Live on Kraft mac and fake cheese, and you will gain weight.

Sure beats starving.

Bull

It’s lack of discipline.

Same reason so many tote around a string of illegitimate babies..waddling about in apron fat

These ain’t Tom Joad just yet son.

You can lose weight and eat cheap crap like dollar menu from McDonalds or Ramen noodles from Dollar General

ask me how I know?

I’ll tell you....I have been poor

Choosing between cigs to smoke or bags or dried cereal to eat

Poverty causes fattiness?

that is hilarious

I guess it cause crime and bastard kids too

and pimples

Huh. And all this time I thought I was too heavy because I ate too much and didn’t exercise enough...

Why do you think that you don't exercise and eat too much? Hmmnnnn?

is estimated that 40% to 70% of a person's BMI is inherited

Could be true that the genes of overweight people play a role: possibly by making them more likely to become fat when they eat modern factory processed foods.

Could be they'd stay as thin as those with other genes, if they ate what they evolved to eat.

Have you ever dieted to lose weight or thought you had a weight problem?

I'm 6'2" tall, and weighed 345 lbs by my late twenties.

By age 29 I was down to 160 lbs.

In the 30 years since, my weight has gone up and down every year or two, varying between 160 and 180.

I've been 160 lbs for the past two years. Started lifting weights in my 60s, and I hope to gain some weight--but weight from muscle only.

Also quit cigarettes (love tobacco as much as I love food) twenty years ago, and didn't gain an ounce.

My aunts and uncles lived into their late 70's and 80's both the skinny and the heavy.

I suggest anyone that thinks because they live a superior life style and maintains their weight should go without food for three days. They should get very familiar with the hunger pains that they are having, then imagine people that have those same feelings even after they have just eaten.

I was on Phen Phen back when it was legal and for the first time in my life I could look at food and ignore it no matter how delicious it looked. Trouble is after about 6 months the body learned to ignore the Phen Phen.

People that survived Hitler's retirement villages all seemed to tell the same story they were hungry all the time and food was always on their mind, they did not get used to being hungry as skinny people often tell overweight people they will, if only they just apply themselves.

The diabetes ping list here has been revealing research evidence that indicates that gut bacteria has a lot to do with determining weight and even diabetes.

Though some of the perfect people posting on these threads won't want to hear it-There is a very strong connection between obesity, and the obese person having suffered some form of abuse during childhood-in particular sexual abuse.

Some researchers have pegged the numbers on this correlation to be as high as 70%

Put "Obesity and chilhood abuse" into a search engine and see more about it, if anyone is curious.

Forget about the overeating and lack of exercise and concentrate on growing taller. Then you’ll be alright.

People may be genetically predisposed to store fat and gain weight. Life is not fair in that regard. But, basically, that is not an excuse. Just look at pictures of people 20-30 years ago. there were far few fat people. Portion control, food selection, and being active are the best ways to control your weight.

Yes, I have had to diet and exercise to lose weight, but I don’t blame it on genetics. I blame it on eating too much and not exercising. Everything else is just being delusional.

It’s not so much the genes as what people choose to eat .

I am thin , my hubby has a propensity to put on weight.
We do not eat the same - he lives to eat - I eat to live.
I’m not a foodie - he is
If he ate the same things as I did he would be thin too

He likes his corn - I rarely eat it
(it’s what they feed cows to put weight on them fast)

He likes his carbs - I’m not crazy about carbs and given the choice I don’t often pick them
(carbs make you crave more carbs if you don’t eat them often you don’t crave them)

I nibble on and off all day long - he likes big meals three times a day
(people who eat 5 to 8 times a day have a higher metabolism and they maintain better blood glucose levels - steady glucose level is key to not storing lots of fat)

I like to drink water - he likes his soda and coffee
(lots of extra empty calories in all that sugar but using fake sugars and drinking diet sodas is even worse as they will make you hungry)

If I want some sugar I will bake something homemade and actually enjoy eating it instead of drinking it.
(not keeping garbage snacks around the house means I have to get off my tush and actually bake something which means I usually end up making better snack choices like a piece of fruit )

It is about how you eat and how often you eat it.
It’s also about how much muscle you build (more muscle burns more calories without doing a darn thing)
Best way to build muscle is to lift weights even light ones.
