Brooklyn College spends $107,000 on outside design firm to ax supposedly phallic logo
New York Post ^ | August 11, 2013 | ISABEL VINCENT and MELISSA KLEIN

She gave it the shaft.

One of Karen Gould’s first acts as president of Brooklyn College was to thrust $107,000 into creating a new school logo — because the old clock-tower silhouette was supposedly too phallic looking, insiders said.

Just months after Gould took the helm of the institution in 2009 as its first woman president, the college hired Baltimore-based Neustadt Creative Marketing to draft a new logo and redo the Web site.

The company soon cut all visual references to the seminal symbol of the La Guardia Hall tower, erected in the 1930s.

The new logo was all words: “Brooklyn College” in large type, with “The City University of New York” in smaller letters.

The design firm, which was hired without a bidding process or request for proposals, claims its work was cutting-edge.

College spokeswoman Keisha-Gaye Anderson would not say where the $107,000 came from, but claimed not from taxpayers or tuition. She would not say why the Baltimore firm was chosen over less costly college staff.

Maybe from her personal piggy bank?

That’s nothin’. Eastern Michigan University/Ypsilanti has it’s own *ahem* water tower that looks like that and WE are proud of it.

Legend had/has it that if a virgin graduates from Eastern Michigan University the tower would crumble. The rumor is false.

erected in the 1930s.

Heh heh, heh heh. "Erected".

The clock tower at Brooklyn College is reminiscent of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, so I can see why it would be offensive to the liberals there.

At least back in the 80s, the liberals there still had some pride. Sure, they were still commie pinkos, but they had some sense of pride.

They should've just gone back to using La Guardia Hall as the logo, or use the clock tower but not as a silhouette.

Walking around Sydney, Australia years ago, we passed two guys wearing their scaffolding company logo shirts....the great part is that in Oz, "scaffolding" is called "erections".

I wanted to buy 'em right off their backs, but wifey shooed me away.

I looked at those the other day and they look nothing like what is on top of the "freedom" tower. Here is a closer look if you want.

I'm not the only guy saying this, a lot of people are noticing it as well. Remember: This is New York city, the liberal sphincter hole of the east coast that made a "memorial" to the 911 victims by constructing two toilet bowls that look like they are being flushed. Was there a problem with making fountains that go up?

To me this whole thing stinks of a setup and I don't trust anything coming out of that pisshole of a city. I grew up and lived there my whole life until I finally got smart and moved last year, I know exactly how that city works when it comes to underhanded leftist crap.
