Just listening to Rush
He is discussing the increase in people giving up US citizenship. I have thought about this as have many in my family. But where to go? Is it really an option politically and financially? Which culture would be the best fit for an ex-American citizen? What kind of legal hassles would result? Please be specific as to why you feel the country you state is the "best" country to immigrate to; political/social atmosphere, wage, social mobility, entrepreneurial opportunities, etc.
Better to stay here, fight it out - end up dead. Or just shut our mouths and live with it?
There is no “new America”. It is one and only.
If you give up your citizenship its because you decided to go pirate. You’ll probably arrange to have several citizenships.
Interesting post. We had been thinking Britain as it has been veering away from Socialism lately. But visited there earlier this year and the Muslim influence is increasing, at least in London.
Rush’s vision for America is bleak given the extreme damage and perpetual liberal lock over government. Welcome to the penal plantation.
I’d look toward Chile or New Zealand.
Australia if you are young and have skills. Russia if you are highly adaptable or have money. Chile.
If you have $100K saved up, and any income at all over $1000 a month, go to thailand
The people there are the sweetest and kindest, and I would rather see Freepers move there than anyone else (but don’t tell any NON-freepers)
I ain’t leaving.
Period.
if you ‘give up your citizenship’ do you no longer receive social security?
Or is it an added bonus for non-citizens?
If it were entirely up to me (but the wife won’t care for it), Poland or Slovakia.
I have heard excellent things about Thailand. It is blazingly hot in the south but in the north there are moountains and a city named MingChing or such. It has a large expatriot population so has pizza parlors, burger joints and steak restaurants. plus you can catch the nfl games there. Housing is new and very affordable and as you say, the people are sweetest on earth.
Thailand?
I worked for a clothing company a few years ago. One of the places was at a DC (Distribution Center) for the eastern US. Think 350,000 ft^2 of four-story high shelves. Seriously *big* place.
I used to walk the DC on my lunch hour for exercise. One day, just for grins, I tried to find a carton, somewhere in the building, that had "Made in the USA" stamped on it.
No dice. But I did discover that 90%+ of the stuff in that massive building was stamped with "Made in Vietnam".
I can't imagine that it's changed much, or that it's much different for other clothing manufacturers. Someone in Vietnam is making money off our back-to-school sales. There's success to be found there, like it or not, I think.
the social security question is a good one. I imagine if you renounce you lose it. Could just go expat, still collect it - but they would want taxes and probably haunt you the rest of your life like the Nazis did to their expats.
SS will probably be bankrupt anyway so I would take my chances without it.
Hell No!
The party hasn't even started!
Molon Lave
That "someone" is a high up in the Communist Party.

Looks like Thailand may be near top of the list.
Look up the nations that have no drinking ages or ages that begin at 16 and you’ll find liberty, freedom in bloom and a fairly secular government.
Then cross-check with private gun ownership laws.
You get both and you’ll find your winner. At least that’s my system and I think it is pretty solid.
Stay and fight...or be a worthless POS coward. Every American who fought and died in the past is watching us at this moment, to see what we do for the nation they left for us. Will we earn our birthright? Or will we run and hide in some sh*thole foreign land because we're pathetic, sniveling cowards; because nothing is more valuable to us than our own comfort and perceived "safety".
Another thought...those who run away and cower in places like the Philippines will stick out like a turd in the punchbowl when the world economy finally collapses, and the natives turn on any and all foreigners. I'd rather my lifeblood be spilled on my native land than have my head sawed off with a rusty, dull machete, in a 3rd-world banana grove.
Shut up and take it? Hell no! Speak up, speak out, get out in the streets, get loud, get on TV, get in their faces. If for no other reason, to rally our side, and to assure those wavering, linguini-spined moderates that we're the majority, and we have the numbers. Maybe if we show some guts, they will, too.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
New Zealand has strict gun law and it is almost impossible for a non-native to own land.
New Zealand is a myth.
/humble opinion
oh, I did have a friend who moved to Canada. he says if you stay away from the cities there is a lot of freedom. Taxes aren’t too bad and you can still get the feel of American culture - at least the good part. But I’d be afraid dumboma will get the US nuked and the fallout to Canada might be a problem. Wouldn’t be surprised if Russia, china or some other country nuked that NSA new facility in Idaho.
Do pirates get social security?
I think if social security is a significant part of your income, you have no need to give up your citizenship.
I went to Alberta a few years ago....loved it, would live there in a heartbeat. It’s like Texas with mountains and snow.
Chiang Mai- and they LOVE Americans there and respect the fact that we are bringing money to their country- they will go out of their way to PROTECT you from bad people because they know you are helping the community by being there spending your money
now that sounds like a winning strategy. What country fits that bill?
“...Or will we run and hide in some sh*thole foreign land ...”
Not an option, brother.
Like Daniel Webster said: I was born American, I’ll live as an American, and I’ll die as an American.
They don’t call Thailand the ‘Land of Smiles’ for nothign
and my thai g/f agrees, but she says it is because I smile when I look at her
Yup, likely. But there’s money there. Just not for us little guys.
Western friendly, English spoken in nearly every province, kind, warm hearted people, amazing beaches, the American dollar goes a long way.
...... and the food! Oh, yeah!!!!!
It’s in New Mexico BTW. :^)
Amewrica is the greatest country in the world...
If it no longer is then there are none at all good enough..
I was at a Braves game this weekend in Atlanta-—Turner Field..
I was amongst 40,000 plus other Americans doing American things..
Americana at its finest...
I was awed, privileged, thankful, inspired, grateful, in tears to be numbered with all the people standing respectfully for our National Anthem and singing along with the choir from Marietta, GA, happily doing the Chop the House, and the Wave, and yelling “Charge!!!”
The happiness and family fun was contageous..
It was Kids Day and the stadium was packed with kids of all ages..
How more American can you get than a baseball game ???
Even one where the Braves got shut out by the Marlins, 0-1 top of the 9th ??? LOL
Just to be there was to belong to an American tradition that Barry has not yet destroyed...
and wont
and cant...
It is the spirit and heart of America with faith in God that has sustained us and our Constitution..
As my pastor said yesterday...
Obama is not in control, the Congress is not in control..
God is in control...
and God has kissed America with His Grace and His Love ...
and He likes baseball..
otherwise He would have let ol Mom pants Barry look good when he threw out that 1st pitch..
:)
Government and those in it, are the cause of nearly every single problem facing America today....
Government at all levels, then turns around and showers it’s employees with lottery style, economy killing, retirement pensions...
We are at a point where fixing government by traditional means is no longer an option.
how are the women in phillipines?? available and looking??
If you dont like America you wont like Socialist New Zealand...
Amen.
“if you give up your citizenship do you no longer receive social security?”
You would no longer be a US citizen so wouldn’t have any benefits coming to you.
“Id look toward Chile or New Zealand.”
I bothered to Google this. Found that the top four in listed order are Sungapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, US. However, each has their individual problems to consider, won’t go through theme here as I’m too lazy. But, having been to each of the top three and have had business associates in each as well, the US still comes out on top all things considered. But, having said that, we (US) are on a downward spiral no doubt about it. So, my alternative to the US is this; at some point Texas along with some like minded states should declare a semi-autonomous relationship with the great US, somewhat akin to what Quebec has with Canada. Then, as time and events evolve, further restructuring can be considered. I know, some will say lets secede, screw’em. This will ever happen and wouldn’t be to Texas’ advantage even if it could be pulled off. Okie dokie, comments welcome :)
Do you know that for a fact?
They are collecting Social Security and paying it to illegals here
"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
-- John Adams
"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it.
-- John Adams
Many pluses to Thailand. Fantastic food. Lovely people. Medicine. Cost of living. Technology. Relative political stability. Convenient and easily connected Bangkok airport.
Blazing tropical heat in the south, milder climes in the north.
The problem would be if too many Americans, and left-leaning Americans, moved there.
Former Soviet states like Estonia are very conservative and strongly support entreprenuership.
If you can stand the cold, that might be a soft landing spot — until the liberals invade and wreck it too.
Americans don’t run.
Excellent choices.
Your Medicare is null and void if you plan to retire somewhere else in the world.
yeah, I was just talking to my friend in Thailand. he said DO NOT MOVE TO THAILAND. it is a dangerous place for americans, especially in the north. The pizza, burgers, and steak is causing massive health problems for expats. Stay away - you have been warned!!!
There IS no replacement for America.
We are the majority yet we act like the minority. Living on a border town I can honestly tell you America is no longer the America we grew up with. Every where I go it’s nothing but Spanish and nasty disrespectful people and they flaunt their love for Mexico. They don’t even try to hide the fact that they are illegal and are obligated welfare ,free rent, free phone, free Medical services, free dental, free prescriptions, discount in their utilities, and pay no taxes! They don”t want to renounced their Mexican citizenship they just want the freebies. Kiss the United States of America goodbye ... And say hello to the United States of Mexico! I predict that in less than 10 years this nation will not be a third world country but very very close to it. The majority of illegals that come to this country don’t have any education and they cannot support the system only suck the life out of the Democratic system. We will be living more likely in a semi communist environment ran by Power-hungry officials ,uneducated folk, atheists ,gays, Environmental wackos, and Scarier than all Muslims will have a powerful say-so ... And that’s only the beginning of our Nightmare...America the beautiful will cease to exist.
This leaving idea is part of human behavior - when one is in a terrible situation, one thinks another place has to be better, so the person leaves A and goes to B. In a regional emergency, that would be true but if the whole country is down, likely place B is no better than A and the person isn't familiar with B which puts them at a disadvantage when they get to B.
I have made my own country in which to live and it's my house and small back garden. I am the President for Life of my country and if half white Hussein brings this country down, I'll stay in my country until times get better. I am prepared to do that starting today if it was necessary.
in the end I guess it all depends on how fast the collapse is. I am of the thought that it is too late to fix the US and we are in permanent decline. The above comment about texas becoming like quebec is a strong possibility so an option as well. While I am strongly American, the thought of dying in vain is not a welcome thought - especially when I could resettle and teach a whole new continent or nation about freedom and free markets and they would be very open to it, not like here.
