A woman reportedly tried to hand her husband his shotgun when she accidentally shot and killed him inside their Arizona home.
Police say Gary Wingate was fatally wounded in the torso when the gun discharged as his wife handed it to him at his request. The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
Phoenix New Times reports that according to a brief from Prescott Valley police, Wingate's wife told police that they were inside the home when her husband asked for the shotgun for an undisclosed reason.
According to police, "While it appears to be an accident, this death will be investigated as a homicide until a final ruling can be found based on a completed investigation."
Wingate's wife reportedly was not comfortable handling a firearm, but told police she did what her husband asked, according to ABC15.com.

The gun didn’t kill him. The gun didn’t discharge by itself. There is a trigger. Pull on the trigger and it shoots.
The mans an idiot for handing a loaded weapon to someone who is not comfortable or familiar with guns.
Check for life insurance policies take out on dead hubby.
If you are fearful of a gun ,
your finger is NOT on the trigger !
Maybe reporters need to take classes to tell them that guns shoot when the trigger is pulled and they hit people because they were aiming towards them when the trigger is pulled - unless they have a heat-seeking bullet I guess
People familiar with guns go out of their way to avoid putting their finger on the trigger- people unfamiliar with guns think that is where your finger goes
There is nothing more dangerous than handing a loaded and ready to fire semi-automatic handgun to a person not familiar.
A revolver is different- it takes some effort to do single action fire (pull the trigger until it cocks itself and fires)
“Wingate’s wife told police that they were inside the home when her husband asked for the shotgun for an undisclosed reason.”
Maybe he felt threatened by the way she was pointing it at him?
More like, teaching everyone how to handle guns is ALWAYS a good idea.
I do believe the bereaved widow is engaging in some serious BS! Do the cops actually believe her story?
Sounds really suspicious to me.
Who is Gary Wingate?
She was just following Democrat firearm safety tips.
Uh huh...She was upset, because he’s just told her that he’d bought a bridge in Brooklyn..
It's not always the case . I had a Mossberg 12 gauge discharge after racking it without ever touching the trigger. Happened right after having duel pistol grips installed and they were not installed correctly .
Article has a pic of the shotgun...we KNOW what a shotgun looks like..we want to know what SHE looks like..
Hard to believe.
