DemocRAT propaganda. He might not be a Marine but he’s already a political tool.

Saw this earlier this morning on FoxNews. Makes my blood boil to see the Marine Corps War Memorial used by this anti-American cabal!

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

I’ve seen this ad, and it’s offensive.

Take the situation of one illegal, turn it into a sob story, and portray it as the norm.

It’s the worst form of propaganda.

If parents want the best for their kids, they won’t allow them to engage in criminal behavior, such as illegal entry into a country. Actions have consequences.

Yeah. I saw it a couple of days ago for the first time on TV. It’s pretty disgusting. Only a fool can’t see that this is nothing but DemocRAT propaganda.

I want to be an MARINE! I'm only 45 but I can still see out of my one good eye, and the titanium plate in my foot doesn't set off too many alarms. They need to change all the rules to accommodate me so my feelings won't be hurt and stuff.

It's all about me! Me! ME!! /s

Exactly. No illegal alien should be allowed into our military. He already demonstrated that he has no respect for our laws. This would only provide an easy way for terrorists and drug cartel members to infiltrate our military.

I tend to disagree. If we are going to have a path to amnesty for illegals, I think honorably serving a term in the military is among the best options.

You don't need to be a citizen to be a marine, you just need to be legal.

He can return to his native land, apply for legal entry in order to enlist in the USMC, and be welcomed in (if he can pass the standards for enlistment).

Any NON-MUSLIM foreigner willing to serve and capable of serving, who intends to become an AMERICAN should be accepted under those conditions. (Donning flameproof NOMEX)

No way. No illegals should ever be allowed into the military. They already have shown they are not honorable persons. They are generally full of entitlement and ready and willing to break our laws. This would allow for the infiltration of the armed forces.

Just because somebody joins our military does not mean they love us. They might have many motives, including doing us harm.

A program to allow them to earn a green card by joining a US Foreign Legion is not the worst idea I’ve heard.

They’ve been watching Game of Thrones or something. Pledging the black and defending the Wall protecting the kingdoms erases the past and cleans the sale.

This was a policy at one time. Until the late 1970s IIRC the US navy recruited a small number of Filipinos and they were granted citizenship upon completing their enlistment. There was great competition for the few slots available.
If the US ever was truly short of military manpower it could very easily find plenty of recruits this way.

The problem is being legal. Demand is much higher than the quota for legal immigration, otherwise there wouldn’t be illegal immigration. Getting into the immigration queue for Mexico means, realistically, waiting decades. Not a practical method, a young person would have built a career and a life at home and be approaching retirement by the time his number comes up.
Maybe that’s what it should be, as there is no realistic alternative given our present laws, reality is what it is.
I think though that a much better system would be to select a quality pool of young people, based on accomplishments, health, English language, IQ, etc., and then run a lottery.

As a “fresh caught Seaman Recruit” in 1973 I arrived at my first ship, a little fleet tug based in San Diego.

One of the Chief's (otherwise know as God!) was a really nice Filipino who was reaching his 20th year. He was always positive and happy but as his retirement date drew nearer he seemed even happier.

I asked him one day this and he explained that with his, to us, meager naval retired pay he would be able to give his family a lifestyle as good as that of the Governor of Manila.

Back on your point, I understand it has always been possible for a foreign national to volunteer to serve in our armed forces and if accepted and they serve honorably then citizenship was on the fast track if they wanted it. But they had to legally enter the armed forces.
