With Christian values to boot. Hope the fame doesn't mess this up. As for going to the white house for anything......declined. Schedule a root canal or something more enjoyable rather than be in the presence of king hussein.

Fame ruins everything it touches

I don’t even know why the show is popular, but I guess compared to the rest of the dreck on TV...

The few times I watched it, I just saw another typical “reality” show, scripted but pretending to be candid and spontaneous.

The fact that they bring family values into it just drags family values through the dirt, not elevating the show.

It has values! They begin and end with prayer. They don’t cuss and blaspheme. They teach their kids traditional values.
They are disguised as a bunch of grizzled Mt. men, but they have a message that America is longing to hear in comparison to the filth of the rest off reality TV!

Great Christian values, true. HOWEVER, I cannot help but be embarrassed by the entire cast and have a suspicion that the producers are sitting back and laughing at us right wing nuts.

Is that really the image we want to project? If so, then I guess I have been wasting my time and money dressing well, shaving, attempting to speak properly...

My preferred view of America might be higher class so call me a snob or whatever but I think we can do better than DD.

For a society to advance should we all strive to be/do better?

I guess I had too much white bread and mayonnaise while growing up. [inside joke with my wife]

I don’t even know why the show is popular

Because the people on it are not trashy; they've been able, thus far,to be true to who they are, even if they do ramp it up a bit, and ordinary Americans relate to them.

There is an episode where one of the wives is complaining about her husband dressing out a deer in the front yard of their suburban home; apparently the school bus came up and several of the children were "traumatized" by it. My wife punched me in the arm as we watched it, because we had the same conversation about 3 years ago; sans the school bus.

I hang out and hunt with people who are exactly like the Robinson's. In fact, we have our own Uncle Si, even if he doesn't appreciate the nick-name.

I have tried three times to watch this show but for some reason I just cannot get intellectually involved/entertained. The only reality show I can watch is Deadliest Catch. Some of it is scripted but the actual work part is not and I have come to the conclusion they are crazy to do that work.

Heck a friend from La. told me even the gator shows are scripted and I would have thought it wasn’t. Dirtiest Jobs was a good one and Mike Rowe is a pretty good sport to do some of the crap he did. Money will only get me to do just so much as I will draw the line.

Part of the show is that they are parodying other “reality” shows.

I think you are looking too deep. It’s just a television show. There are plenty of people in our society to look up to, and it begins at the family level.

Exactamundo.

MOREOVER, they keep it clean, say grace at mealtime, and their language is clean. UNIQUE and a moral/ethic model in today's boob-tube culture; A show that you can watch with your kids or grandkids.

That's just it; There *aren't* plenty of public people to look up to in today's corrupt culture and society. And Duck Dynasty is exactly ABOUT "the family level."

They [gasp!] pray to Almighty God! The head of the clan is a self-made man! They don’t rely on the government! I mean, how is this show even allowed on TV!

I agree. I watched about 2 minutes of an earlier episode and that was it. I didn’t the reason for hoopla over the program.

I do recall when the Beverly Hillbillies first showed up, it was an immediate success.

I think it has to do with portraying lifestyles most are not familiar with. The problem, however, is copycats. Even History Channel has found Hatfields & McCoys in the Ky/TN hills.

I just don’t find these kinds of ‘reality TV’ that interesting. TV companies like them because they are cheap to make.

Yeah. I’ve seen about 10 minutes and I can’t understand why it’s popular. Totally scripted, contrived cutesy dynamics and set ups. Only American Pickers, American Restoration and Pawn Stars have anything interesting in them, and they also are rapidly falling into the same traps. It seems that the “family values” thing is the only peg it has to hang its hat on.

its actually very simple, when people get a chance to watch a show that is not antichristian, has some American values, and doesn’t propagandize things like homosexuality, people will lap it up who are starved for it.

its a lesson for those Christian hating producers in Hollywood, but money comes second to people who are trying to destroy the American Christian middle class.
look at the fact that other shows have a dig at old time American values every 90 seconds, and the laugh track goes crazy. how about ellen, where the biggest applause is always for someone who announces she just married her girlfriend.
