Dog to make full recovery after eating 2 lbs. of rocks

A dog with an abnormal appetite that left the pooch with "rock hard abs" underwent emergency surgery at BluePearl Veterinary hospital in Eden Prairie, Minn., on Wednesday to remove 16 rocks weighing almost 2 lbs.

The 7-year-old golden retriever named Gordon likely ate river rocks out of a garden, but the dog's owner was perplexed by the pooch's stony meal since food is always accessible.

Dr. Jeff Yu performed the successful two-hour operation.

"You don't see too many dogs eat this many rocks usually," Yu remarked. "Most dogs will stop after one or two, but Gordon certainly had quite the hankering."

Some dogs are as dumb as a box of rocks.

The only reason that you don't owe me a new keyboard is that I put my drink down first.

Our lab lived to the ripe old age of 16. He loved rocks. He wouldn’t chase balls, he chased rocks and ate quite a few along the way. He had an iron stomach. One day we watched him pass golf balls.

My son came running to me saying Buck had plastic hanging out of his butt. I looked and saw the plastic. Some things I do not do. When my husband got home he pulled a large plastic bag out of Buck’s butt. Buck went on his merry way oblivious to our amazement.

He has been gone almost 20 years, but we still miss him. Buck rocked.

Roommate’s Pick-Of-The-Litter English Lab was a turdgobbler... weird thing was that his his brother, the runt, did no such thing... they had a totally different set of personalities. Titan was anxiety prone... sitting out by the campfire, “T” would hear one crackle of the burning logs and away he went wanting to go into the house and hide. Cody would lay down right next to the fire and even if a burning log rolled out of the fire on his tail he would just stay there loving the company and the warm fire.

The source article actually mentions pica in dogs.

Interesting, though, that the idiot writing the piece uses the clowns at ASPCA as a source instead of asking the vet who is quoted in the story.

My yellow lab, who is almost 11, has eaten rocks when he was a puppy. He also ate an entire loaf of bread, bag and all. Ya, that was fun to pull the bag out of his butt days later. He also ended up chewing on then swallowing his nylon leash after my husband left it on him alone for about 5 minutes. He threw it up, in its entirety, about 2 weeks later. He’s normal now :)

Our mutt ate the shower curtain. The vet had to cut her open and remove the pieces.

“I had a Golden Retriever that would gobble my other dog’s droppings before they hit the ground.”

My sister has a dog like that. Get ‘em while they’re hot! It must be an acquired taste.

:) If you need a new keyboard it would be time to wipe the “slate” clean and start over.
