A sexually transmitted disease among dogs can also be transmitted to humans through licking, according to an expert in the field.

Kansas State University Veterinarian and Laboratory Director Bill Fortney said Canine Brucellosis, an STD spread among pets, can also be spread to their human owners.

“It’s considered a sexually transmitted disease, but unfortunately, it can also spread by licking,” Fortney told KSNT-TV.

I used to routinely test dogs for B. canis years ago and had a few positives. Its been over fifteen years since I've had a positive test for this disease. There is a higher chance of people acquiring Chlamydia or Coxiella from animals than Brucella.

This is such an inflammatory article. Canine Brucellosis has been around forever. Yes, it is transmitted between dogs when they mate, but here again, the way this article is written is sensationalism.

Brucellosis (a different form from that which dogs carry) can also be transmitted to man by cattle.

Pardon the ping - I should have known you would be on this thread.

I wonder if B. canis is coming in because of all the rescues importing dogs from other countries?

Brucellosis, isn’t that a goat thing? Humans can catch it. Keep your goats clean, people. Wash after every use!

One could probably catch brucellosis by drinking goat milk, from the source.
