GLAAD finds movies lag behind TV in LGBT roles

We may be seeing more prominent gay and lesbian characters on TV shows, but the movie industry lags well behind the small screen, an advocacy group reports.

In its first study of LGBT roles in major studio releases, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation found that compared with TV, where there has been a significant shift over the past decade, “Major studios appear reluctant to include LGBT characters in significant roles or franchises.”

In its report released Wednesday, GLAAD found that of the 101 releases from Hollywood’s six major studios in 2012, just 14 included characters identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Most were no more than cameos or minor roles, it said—and none of the films tracked had transgender characters.

“Until LGBT characters appear more regularly in these studio films, there will be the appearance of bias,” said Wilson Cruz, GLAAD’s national spokesperson, in an interview. He added that his organization will be meeting with studio executives to discuss the findings. …

Don't forget deliverance. Oh, wait, that didn't show the queers in a fairytale light, did it.

Well, not sympathetic like Silence of the Lambs. That was a great role model for transgendered youth.

Well, Legolas and Gimli were a little sweet on each other..., not to mention Sam and Frodo.Well, Legolas and Gimli were a little sweet on each other..., not to mention Sam and Frodo.

While I realize that you're just making a joke, it's interesting that in today's culture it's almost impossible to portray true, deep friendship between two men without the implication that they're "gay" for each other.

I was flying back from South Africa just a couple of days ago and was too tired to read but couldn't go to sleep (I was in the cattle car section, after all), so I was watching movie after movie, and watched the film, "On The Town" (1949) with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Toward the end, after Gene thinks he's lost his new girlfriend (Vera Ellen), Frank is comforting him, saying "I know how tough you're taking this, kid", to which he replies, "I know you know...that's why I love you". They then walk back to their friends, Frank's arm around Gene's shoulders.

A scene that would never be in a movie today.

The actor who played Gandalf/Magneto is a radical homo activist

He's also one of the greatest actors of his generation. Credit where it's due.

So NOT including sodomite characters in movies and tv equals defamation. GFY!

This is becoming the mantra. If you do not CELEBRATE "gay pride", you are "anti" homosexual.

You must cheer the lifestyle. So much for "freedom of choice".

General Mills decided this year to proclaim the "'Lucky' to be gay" twitter campaign.

What's "unlucky" about being heterosexual?

The culture has been perverted by self-absorbed immature freaks.

Okay then, Michael Jackson was a repeat accused pedophile with Hollywood stars who’ve even made molestation allegations.

He was also world renowned as the King of Pop.

He was still a vile person. Same boat as Ian.

And Ian has outlived many of his generation but was NOT a superior actor to those of his birth generation who’ve passed on.

We tried to watch “Chopped” last night until one of the chefs announced it’s sex change from female to male. Switched over to a recorded episode of “Hotel Impossible”.

Don't forget Deliverance. Oh, wait, that didn't show the queers in a fairytale light, did it.

Shawshank Redemption didn't exactly show "The Sisters" in a good light either.

Hey, we all need friends in here. I can be a friend to you.

Maybe because its a heck of a lot easier to prove results at a box office than on TV. And those films are non-starters, no matter how many phony Oscar accolades they receive.

Thank goodness for TCM.

What a Conservative father wants to do after a day of drudgery trying to earn more money for the clueless central socialist government to spend, and the children slaving away learning about how evil America’s history is and mother taking care of her family is to sit down in front of their television set and watch homosexuals groping and coupling with one another.

What, in the name of God, could possibly be entertaining about watching homosexuals and lesbians prance about and talk about their trysts and dalliances?

It might entertain Barney Fwank, but Barney is hardly indicative of a normal human being; in fact, no homosexual is normal. They’ve devoted their lives to wallowing in filth and obscenity and now want you to watch them for entertainment.

I say banish all sodomists to a remote Hawaiian Island, or reactivate Alcatraz....that way they’ll be close to their favorite city on the bay.

That's a matter of opinion. To me, he sounds like an Anglican archbishop who smells a fart.
