FULL TITLE: 25 African-Americans thrown out of South Carolina restaurant after a white woman complained of feeling 'threatened'
A South Carolina man and several of his friends say they were refused service at a Wild Wing Cafe in Charleston last month and asked to leave. The reason: Michael Brown and his group of 24 friends and family members are African-American, and a another customer - a white woman - complained that she felt threatened by the group.
That's according to Brown, who was celebrating his cousin's last day in Charleston with a night out at the Wild Wing Cafe. Brown took his beef to social media, and the story went viral.
The apparent race-based snub came after Brown and his group waited for a table for about two hours.
'She said there's a situation where one of our customers feels threatened by your party, so she asked us not to seat you in our section, which totally alarmed all of us because we're sitting there peaceably for two hours,' Brown explained to WCSC. 'Obviously, if we were causing any conflict, we would have been ejected out of the place hours before.'
As Brown and the shift manager were talking, a member of his party began videotaping the conversation, which is when the manager became upset and refused to seat the group.

I’ll take “Loud and Rude, Lawsuit-Gaming Race Hustlers” for $2,000, Alex.
Why would they wait for two hours and not go to another restaurant ?
I am calling bravo sierra.
Who knows, it could be a shakedown.
table for 25 please,
sheesh if you are doing that you need reservations way in advance, a private room etc, you can’t just bring a huge group like that
restaurant knows they wouldn’t tip for crap.
they likely didn’t have enough food
I planned a birthday party at a restaurant, a month in advance, 16 people, private room, limited menu, they had brought in a crew dedicated just to my party
you can’t show up with 25 people and expect to ever get seated
And they have audio on 8 track...
I can see seating twelve people in less than two hours.
You’d have to split the group.
*dungeon masters just cringed at that*
What difference does it make that they waited that long, since others were presumably waiting that long and since it presumably makes eventually being turned away worse?
My guess is that they were waiting ‘patiently’, but were talking and joking loudly and that’s what scared the other patron. One of the big cultural differences between blacks and whites tends to be one of sheer decibels.
Yes, good point, unless it was a very large restaurant.
That may have contributed to the manager feeling justified in eventually turning them away.
Dittos to that Bravo Sierra! There is no way in hell some, (or all), of the 25 of ‘em wouldn’t have ‘gone bat sh$t crazy ghetto’ after just 10 minutes of waiting for the crappy azz cracker to serve ‘em.
Had to split the group a year or two back in Columbia SC.
The manager was an understanding soul.
And there was a game on that night.
Place was packed.
These guys had options, and they apparently didn’t think it through.
And the place sounds like a smaller establishment the way the article reads.
Well, while we’re waiting...Grape flavored Philly Blunt anyone?
That many should have just hired a catering company.
Paging Mr. Holder. Mr. Holder, please pick up the white phone.
>> African-Americans are an invented people.
And an extra six syllables plus a hyphen!
I feel slighted, as a Celtic-Caucasoidal-American.
If he/she is off to prison, will they still take part in the settlement? And will their free meal certificate expire while they're in the slam?
That would have required thought and planning.
Somehow I doubt any thought beyond “yeah, this place.” occurred.
Might be the rowdy group that got kicked out..it’s kinda hazy..
They really should have put some brain power into it.
Yep, though it sounds like the manager mismanaged it and if she eventually brought up another party’s feeling ‘intimidated’ she then opened herself to the possible racist interpretation, though not in any way racist proof.
It’s possible she was afraid to turn them away originally, when she should have, because they were black.
Plausible way it went down is that the manager did make an attempt to seat them.
Splitting the group was floated, but rejected.
After a length of time, group started getting mouthy rude and loud.
Maybe some threatening comments were said.
Manager now has to weigh the costs of seating the group versus public peace, an unenviable position to be in.
Business refuses service as politely as possible.
Group storms off in a huff.
Someone later goes, “That’s racist!”
Right, two hours?
- follow up -
Could well be, though we don’t really know one way or another at this point. I wonder if the other side will come out.
They are an invented people.
Just like Palestinians and for the same purpose.
Yeah, I second that.
I’m heavily skeptical of the two hour time frame.
Just out of curiosity, what did you do for those two hours?
THAT may have had something to do with it. The manager thought there **might** have been a reason they were recording video.
They give a pager but we waited there. Just hang out and socialize and meet interesting people.
> restaurant knows they wouldnt tip for crap.
The Amish are just following the modern European model and not leaving a tip.
That sounds like waiting at the bar, minus the drinks.
There are other differences such as this very valid one but they dare not be mentioned lest the race card be drawn.
> Right, two hours?
I don’t buy it either. Wonder ifthe little old white lady was working with them for a lawsuit payday.
> Right, two hours?
I dont buy it either. I’ve never seen anyone wait 2 hours unless it was a really sought after eating establishment or special event, especially not the Amish. Got to wonder if the little old white lady was working with them for a lawsuit payday. That or an administration race baiting team trying to create more racial divsion.
The wings ARE worth waiting for...having said that; most of the WW’s I have been to aren’t set up to accommodate 25 customers dropping in without advance arrangements.
I wouldn’t wait two hours if the food was free.
Well, you could go eat somewhere else, come back and get the free food and microwave it later. ;-)
The title of the article is misleading. How is it that this group was “thrown out”? To me, “thrown out” means by the scruff of your neck. They were refused service. No restaurant is obligated to serve a rowdy group of 25 nontippers who just happen to show up all at once.
And this crowd waiting for 2 hours!? Not a chance. Not in a million years. They are trolling for a lawsuit.
IIRC this place is near Goose Creek, in the Best Buy parking lot, right next to Chic Fil A . It’s a free-standing building, and not huge.
There’s two sides to every story.
A 25 person party is a lot of revenue. Why turn them away without cause?
The horror! The shame! The humiliation!
Call out the National Guard! Arrest the manager and her staff. Send them all to reeducation camps.
Seriously? A group of negros this large descending unannounced on a restaurant where alcohol is served in the present racial climate is a recipe for disaster. These people live in their own world of entitlement, aided by the first black president. There are no rules for them. This will not end well, and it is getting worse every day.
It’s questionable economics to remove 24 customers so you can please 1 customer. Restaurants like Wild Wings run on pretty thin margins. Let’s just say, I have doubts.
Yeah, really. I don’t wait for food like that. Maybe 20 minutes, that’s about it.
Let them go back to Africa, from whence they came.
My daughter used to wait tables at one of the chain restaurant/bars. She had a table of over 20 Negroes that had over $500 on the check. They gave her $10 for her tip.
She mentioned that she had only a handful of them that would tip near 15% and most would leave the coins from their change after paying.
Even the Negro waitresses tried to avoid Negro tables because even they admitted the tipping problem.
