Billy Ray Cyrus on Parents Television Council That Condemned Miley Cyrus' Performance

Billy Ray Cyrus is on the advisory board of the Parents Television Council, which slammed his daughter Miley Cyrus for her ultra-sexy performance on the Video Music Awards on MTV Sunday night.

Ironically, the Parents Television Council says its mission is to "protect children from graphic and gratuitous programming and to restore responsibility to the entertainment industry," notes the Daily Mail.

Former BET network executive Paul Porter, who is part of the Parents Television Council, stated: "The Miley Cyrus/Robin Thicke performance simply substituted talent with sex."

Dan Isett, public policy director for the Parents Television Council, said: "MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate "twerking" in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?"

However, Billy Ray Cyrus told Entertainment Tonight: "She's still my little girl and I'm still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change. Of course I'll always be here for Miley. Can't wait see her when she gets home."

During a 2007 interview with  Glenn Beck, Cyrus said Miley "has good head on her shoulders."

Is Mrs. Cyrus dead or divorced from Mr. Parent-of-the-Year? If she's still among us, it would be interesting to get her take on this. If Billy Ray Cyrus honestly thinks his little girl did nothing wrong on national TV, then he is a lousy parent who has absolutely no standards of decency. I guess we're lucky HE doesn't stroll down the street in his underwear, sticking his tongue out and shaking his butt.

On one hand she’s getting what she’s asked for. On the other, I feel sorry for her. She’s 20 now but for almost half her short life all she’s heard is praise and adulation, given whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it. Complete and total slavish devotion from Disney, the entertainment industry etc..

Seems to me she’s in meltdown since she’s too old to play the cute kiddie on tv and no other options seem to be working out. All in all this isn’t much different than what Charlie Sheen did a couple years ago.

I sure don’t feel sorry for Billy Ray. I blame him. And his wife.

Or Internet! From what I can tell, the way the clip has been seen most is via YOUTUBE. And the ones watching it are soooo outraged.

MTV is blocked in our house along with a whole lot of other channels. We had killed our cable but have it until college football season is over.
