Facebook Inc is considering incorporating most of its 1 billion-plus members’ profile photos into its growing facial recognition database, expanding the scope of the social network’s controversial technology.

The possible move, which Facebook revealed in an update to its data use policy on Thursday, is intended to improve the performance of its “Tag Suggest” feature. The feature uses facial recognition technology to speed up the process of labeling or “tagging” friends and acquaintances who appear in photos posted on the network. …

The changes would come at a time when Facebook and other Internet companies’ privacy practices are under scrutiny, following the revelations of a U.S. government electronic surveillance program. …

Whatever you have put onto Facebook is in their database.

“I’m changing my FB pic to a bare arse.”

I thought everyone on FB did.

If they add facial recognition, I’m changing my FB pic to a bare arse.

(Cough).... What if the computer still recognized your face?

When I was a member of facebook I google my own name. I found hundreds with the same name as me.

I then put their photo into facebook and tagged them with our name (nothing dishonest as we all shared the same name).

I don’t think even Facebook can separate out hundreds of photos with the same (real) name.

Of course I did not give my true age or where I was located. So while I may be in their system, they will need to work at it to pin point me.

I saw this on the Pivot channel last night....

Terms and Conditions May Apply

This film explores the hidden intent within ridiculous Terms and Conditions agreements and Privacy Policies, and reveals what corporations and governments are legally taking from you and the outrageous consequences that result from clicking “I accept.”

Wednesday, Sept.11 at 7p ET - although I think Dish Network is previewing this channel for free right now...I'm not sure when it airs again before 9/11

I suggest deleting all profile photos in which you are not wearing a disguise of some sort.

Step right up, folks! Volunteers needed!

I still believe FB is owned and operated by the government. Laugh all you want. People laughed when it was said the government used FB to spy on it’s citizens. They’re watching everything. Including everything posted here.

They’ve already got your picture. They’ve got every picture ever posted even. That includes those of us who cancelled FB several years back. In fact, if you’ve ever posted your picture on internet, it’s in a database.

Funny. I think I will Tag myself on a lot of photos that aren’t me. My friends used to get mad at me for removing tags from pictures they posted of me.
