Gadget Friday: Yellow Jacket iPhone Stun Gun
NBC Bay Area ^ | Friday, Aug 30, 2013 | Shayna John

Yellow Jacket is an iPhone case with a stun gun inside.

Flip down a hinged cover to reveal two small metal prongs. Slide the safety switch and a press of a button will deliver 650 volts to an attacker. The stun function is powered by a separate battery (not your phone’s) which makes the case heavy, but the extra peace of mind in a dark parking lot may be worth it.

Guaranteed to really piss your attacker off so he not only takes your phone, but hurts you, too

Jack Spirko tried this product out and it simply doesn’t work.

I carry my phone in my front pants pocket. What are the chances that this gadget will misfire? Should I have a lawyer handy on speed dial? Probably need 911 first!

There is a typo here. It delivers 650,000 Volts (650KV), not 650 volts.

Hey, it’s an NBC news site. What a 1000x factor among friends?

My friend Jack Spirko, host of The Survival Podcast, reviewed it awhile back. Jack said it is crap. He has been stun-gunned before, in military training, and he said this gun was a joke. No 'kick'. He said that it would be fine if you just want the extra battery power for your iPhone, but there are other cases that do that.

I don't know, I haven't tried it, but I trust Jack on a lot of gear reviews.

Sorry.
