Tim Tebow has been released by the New England Patriots, according to multiple reports.
Tebow played in three of the Patriots four preseason games this season, finishing 11-for-30 (36.7 percent) for 145 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked four times for a loss of 48 yards, and rushed for 91 yards on 16 carries for a 5.7-yard average.

Sad, but inevitable. He was awful playing as a dropback quarterback.
Now he can write a book and give that talk he previously cancelled at First Baptist Dallas.
I’ve never understood the conspiracy theories some FReepers have relative to Tebow not getting a fair shake in the NFL.
But he’s a fine young man and I’m sure will prosper in his next career, perhaps coaching or ministry.
BEAT ME BY MINS.
I’m guessing Simms makes the NYJ over McElroy as the 3rd QB
and what about Buffalo ... 2 QBs?
Funny, I seem to remember this about another quarterback. He was only on the team because of who he was, too much scrambling, would never learn to be a ‘proper’ NFL quarterback, didn’t have necessary arm strength etc, etc. But I can’t quite remember his name.
Oh yea, Roger Staubach.
With the proper coach, leadership, guts, and daring CAN be turned into a winner.
Some people like to apply conspiracy theories to almost everything, it seems. In some cases there may be some truth to it, other times I read stuff on here and just start laughing. Although now they seem more prevalent on here than when I first joined.
A few years in Canada has done wonders in the past, i.e. Warner.
Steelers could use him
Closer to Jeff George, I think.
Proven winner but an unlikely fit with any structured play scheme.
Jeff George was the definition of “frozen rope”.
Yes, Roger...Navy vet and all round good guy.
There was another QB who did not have it according to his college coach, ended up playing in the NFL for the 49ers, Joe something or other.
Now Tebow can go play for Jacksonville and help get some fans in the seats too.
I do believe one reason Tebow was picked up by the Patriots was to deflect from the Hernandez problems New England was having.
Warner played in the Arena Football League, not the CFL.
Warren Moon and Doug Flutie were CFL players who came back to the NFL at QB.
Unitas stunk too.
LOL Jeff George.
His kid is now a big time recruit here in Indy at Warren High School.
I don’t think he’ll give up. A couple months from now some team may be 1-6 with nothing left to lose and he may get another shot in a moneyball situation. All he does is win. Jacksonville, I’m looking at you.
NFL qb must deliver results. Give him a “chance” sounds like sports welfare. If you can’t perform, this isn’t the career.
The CFL should pick him up. He’s more for some of their offenses. His athleticism and work ethic accounts for a significant part of who he is. IMO he’s just not found the right niche.
the real Baseball season starts today. So why is this thread about FOOTBALL?
I’m sorry to hear this..
maybe Boof-alo. This week.
Maybe that is what Tebow should do.
I’d say Jay Cutler is closest to Jeff George. All the talent in the world, the physical tools to be a Hall of Fame quarterback, but a “me first” attitude that will keep him from ever achieving what he could. I see Tebow as the opposite, good attitude, poor physical skills for the position.
Well now he’s free to go the the team that can actually use him, whoever that is. I’d guess he’ll be in the NFL for years.
My buddy’s kid is a tight end/h-back/special teams player who graduated from Wisconsin. He’s been on 7 different NFL rosters.
Tim is still young enough that good things could happen.
Kirt Warner comes to mind. It took him a long time to ever get noticed and then he made it big.
Tebow was signed before the Hernandez problem even came to light. The two were mutually exclusive.
If he had done better, Belichick would have kept him on the squad. In these parts, Pete Carroll has yet to choose a backup to Russell Wilson and it’s between Tavaris Jackson or Brady Quinn. They could both stay, but I doubt it.
I would bet money that Tebow is never on another NFL roster. He’s been given a shot by three teams, and they’ve all passed him off.
Jeff need his own NFL team coached by him and starting Jeff George at QB, Jeff George at wide-receiver and Jeff George at running back. Funny thing...that team would have gone undefeated as long as Jeff George started at all those skill positions. Really! Just ask Jeff.
Caveat: I think JG was a ^great^ QB, he was, simply, a lousy politician.
Could Buffalo or Jacksonville use him though?
He might be better than Dallas's 2nd string too.
He is much better than the 6-8 former Arizona State QB Denver was using as a backup. Guy can't dodge DEs who can't help but grab part of his body.
Once they knew hernandez was not coming back they were going to cut him. Tebow had a history with hernandez and could calm him down. That was alway what this was about
Too bad he’s not a transgendered, drug addict, muslim. New England was getting my attention in a positive way, but now it’s the same obnoxious losers they were last year.
I don’t understand the fascination with whether Tebow makes it as a QB in the NFL. Eric Crouch, a Heisman Trohpy Winner from Nebraska, didn’t make it in the NFL as well. Nor many others for that fact.
The very best for him IMO is to leave the NFL penal league. If he likes hanging around these sorts, maybe join a prison ministry or bankruptcy counseling. But bad company corrupts good character and do not wish to see Tim seduced to the life style of the rich shameless. Instead, I hope for something better than fame, personal glory, fortune and crippling injuries. I hope he finds a wife who is worth more than rubies (much better than finding a team to play on), raise children of honor, go to work in the private sector, where his attitude and work ethic will do more than entertain the masses, forget fame and instead build something substantial for generations and eternity. Tim belongs in worship on the Lord's day, not being worshiped by those who forsake the Lord.
He had a good run, but football is not the race - life is much more than that.
Yet he has a winning record including a big playoff win over the Steelers. He also threw the go ahead winning TD pass in his last game.
I can understand why the Patriots cut him, and I don't think sitting on the bench would have done him any good either. A team with nothing to lose needs to pick him up and make him the starter.
If that doesn't happen he should consider another position or resume his baseball career. He's already famous and one of the most popular athletes. He no longer needs to play QB to be famous.
Probably would never happen but Atlanta would be an interesting landing spot. They normally carry three quarterbacks but just released one. Matt Ryan is securely #1 but the back up doesn’t have any playing experience. Great organization full of character guys.
Tebow was signed two days before the Hernandez circus began manifesting itself on the front page. The fact that McDaniels wasted a first round pick on Tebow in Denver was why the Patriots gave him his third long shot.
The Packers could use a good back-up QB.
Len Dawson was cut after 5 years in the NFL. He signed with the AFL Chiefs and is in the Hall of Fame.
I’m starting to think that many of us on FR that look at Tebow simply as “a winner” of Heisman caliber might end up being proven right at a future point.
Can you say “Jimmy Plunkett”?
Yep. Really don’t see anyone else picking him up. Just a terrible pro player. And I know people say, “put him at TE, etc.” Why? At the pro level you have excellent TEs etc not someone who has never played the position.
Wish hi well in future endeavors but it won’t be in football.
Flutie had two stints with New England. First, beginning during the strike season of 1987 when he crossed the picket line, before he went to Canada, and second in 2005 after he returned from Canada.
Don’t agree. he’s just not a talented pro player. College and pro are just not even on the same planet.
Well at least he went out on a high note.
I don’t agree with the “all he does is win” meme. He had a great D at Denver. Whatever he did in college is meaningless. It was kind of like once I got into law school, no one could care less about my undergrad grades.
Teabow has never been good at the pro level. His teams winning a game here and there means nothing. He’ll be fine though.
