Smartwatch maker WIMM went dark last year, posting a cryptic thank-you message on its Web site citing "an exclusive, confidential relationship" for its technology.
Similar to previous reports of a coming Google smartwatch, the latest says the company has the work on the product -- including WIMM's employees -- centered in the Android unit, rather than its X Lab. That could mean a Google watch comes to market faster than the wearable Google has been trumpeting all year, Google Glass, which was a product of X Lab.

I personally don’t and never have for the past 10 years or so unless there’s a party or function I go to. You want the time? Take a look at your phone.
Obviously Google and Apple are going to be offering much more than the time on their "wrist watches" but it remains to be seen whether a tablet-like device worn on your wrist catches on. When I was growing up, Dick Tracy looked cool but in 2013, you would probably look like a dork with that contraption on your wrist.
I wear a watch whenever I leave the house. I love watches and clocks.

Hmmmm...well I still look at my wrist when I want to know what time it is.
Looks more and more like the world has been right past me. Sometimes I think maybe it’s time for me to check out.

I find wearing a watch makes it easier to put my cellphone away, rather than having it out in view or in my hand—and avoid the temptation to always be checking it.

the only time i would wear a watch these days is when i’m wearing a suit (which i don’t do as often since i’m not going to client site often). even then, the watch is meant to look good... not like a gizmo
the further for personal wear computing isn’t quite here yet.
i believe the further will start to arrive once contacts or glass are able to produce an image on our field of view without being seen (not the google glass thing, that’s too obvious).
with the display covered, audio would come from vibration via bone induction. this should allow for speakers and mic capability.
rings or a glove could be used for keyboard or mouse-like input.
and of course, these things would have to have the power to communicate with the main computing device, which would be tiny (stick of gum) and probably in a pocket. the power would be the main thing holding most of it back
if this existed, and no one noticed it while in use, it would be the future of wearable computing

I love that song.
An expensive watch used to be a status symbol. One problem: it was not clearly visible to ALL. Come smarttelephones. I think that the phenomenon of people, mostly, if not exclusively, women, in public places obliviously crossing busy streets while talking on phones is not due to women’s tendency to blabber all the time, no, it is something else: a demonstration of a status symbol and fashion accessory the smarttelephone. I own it, and you don’t!
