In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

honcho (HAWN-choh)
noun: One who is in charge of a situation; leader; boss.
verb tr.: To organize, manage, or lead a project, event, etc.

Example sentence:
“The three head honchos are the recipients of the Best CEO Award.”
--Cool Heads and Calm Nerves at the Helm; The Business Times (Singapore); Aug 12, 2013.

Etymology:
From Japanese hancho, from han (squad) + cho (chief). Earliest documented use: 1947.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

July 1969 I had the "pleasure" of venturing out into the "Honcho" in Yokosuka City with a few of my shipmates and getting drunk in a bar surrounded by beautiful young women who were making salacious conversation while drinking shots of tea for which my colleagues and I were paying whisky prices.

I got fed up after about $20.00 worth of this and picked up one of the girls' drinks and quaffed it. That's when we discovered it was tea. My friends thought this was great fun.

It sort of feels the same as having Obama in control of our military - another wag the tail military op in which he socks the Tar Baby and the American people pay the price.

Since all of the prizes are already awarded, I’ll just say ‘hello’ and comment that I never realized that this word (which I have used for years) had its origin in Japan and WWII.
