Word For The Day, Monday, 9/9/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. causing or capable of causing laughter; laughable; ludicrous. 2. having the ability, disposition, or readiness to laugh. 3. pertaining to or connected with laughing.
Etymology: 155060; < Late Latin rīsibilis that can laugh, equivalent to Latin rīs ( us ) (past participle of rīdēre to laugh) + -ibilis -ible
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Obama's risible foreign policy team still getting laughs abroad.

No pushing at the door please!
Anyone who is not getting pings that wants to please let me know. I feel like i have missed putting a few of the more recently matriculated students on the roll, when i get notice on days i am working at home.
Obama: so bad that it’s risible
Go away! Or at least go invisible
His rantings on Syria
Are approaching deliria
“One Nation” completely divisible
good morning Truthy! A++++ i will NOT watch him blather tomorrow night, i don’t care what he announces.
I'd rather watch a re-run of my beloved Giants throwing 3 interceptions, losing 2 fumbles and muffing a punt against the arch-rival Cowboys.
Do you find it risible when I say the name of my friend?
The highlight of our game yesterday was the opening kickoff. The Titan fielded the ball at the goal line, stepped back into the end zone and knelt down.
Those 2 points were all we scored until the final minutes.
Good morning! We had fun last night at a Predators Foundation party and fundraiser for Parkison’s research. Met lots of people and hung out with players and coaches. Kevin Nealon was the entertainment and he was FUNNY! I mean, risible!
That should read Parkinson’s, you doofus!
that is def the pose he most often strikes.
I should have recorded it for you then TSSYF.
You can take comfort in knowing that despite all those gifts, the Cowboys STILL almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory but they ran out of time.
sounds great. i have to google kevin nealon. he may have been the guy who emceed the NHL awards show a few years ago.
I saw that. The Steelers are definitely lacking some firepower right now. The Giants actually were competitive until the end, despite the 6 turnovers.
I told some people that if Rich Clune had taken off his shirt, he would have been able to make more money having pictures taken with people. Lots of ink there. I almost bid on a Sidney Crosby jersey for you. And I would have liked that Aerosmith guitar but the bidding started at $1000. Today’s our anniversary but we counted last night as our night to celebrate.
I think that was Amy Poehler’s ex.
happy anniversary! great way to celebrate!
Thank you! 29th and it seems like it is flying by.
I always record the games. And I am now disciplined enough to delay watching the video until about 90 minutes have passed. Then, I can watch the entire game in well under two hours, fast-forwarding through the endless commercials and, often, the constant blather between plays.
My favorite trick: Offense is stopped on third down inside the opponent’s 25. Obvious field-goal attempt coming up. Fast-forward—watch the ball go through the uprights and see the score change. Blast through the long commercial. Continue to fast-forward as kickoff sails through the end zone or is downed for a touchback. Zip through ensuing commercial and stop just as they break the huddle, first and ten at the 20 yard-line. Did not miss any action and saved 5-7 minutes of my life.
I was also trying to talk people out of bidding for Suter’s Wild jersey, right next to Parise’s(the bromance continues). Doughty’s went for a good price, as did Hartnell’s Flyers one. People still love Scotty here, but Suter? Not so much...
But doing that you risk missing some of the brilliant insights of Collinsworth and Michaels. Oh wait, there is none. Nevermind.
IS there anything about politics that isn’t both risible and depressing in the same moment?
It is risible that I did not get your ping because I was in the shower. Gotta go to work today. C ya l8tr.
not lately! A+++
Dave Chappelles act and his comments regarding his failed show in Hartford are hardly risible.
Never liked the guy anyway.
A++ not really familiar with him. have heard of him, but never paid him any mind.
I have become a fan of Kevin Nealon lately. He was in Boston this spring and visited my niece who was in the hospital dealing with her Crohns disease again. Hung out with several people, and just made them all feel better. He didn’t need to do anything like that, but he just does it. I like that!
Don’t bother, he’s just an unfunny dick.
it is refreshing to hear people like that doing nice stuff just for the heck of it. good for him.
Yes, i have been doing that for years. Unless the offense is running a hurry up, the button that skips ahead 30 seconds take you from tackle to snap of the next play.
Who is running this Cracker Jack factory? John Kerry drawing lines in the sand? Susan Rice being sent out to sell any idea whatever? Risible? You can’t make this stuff up.
A+++ good to see you again!how have you been?
When the rabble rise above their station they become risible. Cuthbert just graduated Notary Public training and also received a Certificate of Appreciation for learning the Dewey Decimal System. There’s just no telling how far Cuthbert will rise in our town’s heady intellectual atmosphere.
Or are you just responding to his subliminal suggestions?
It was going to be a shaky year anyway, but losing our all pro center Pouncey was not good. Also lost linebacker Foote for the year.
Never has a season started with such a wondrous sign and then had everything after turn to crap.
sounds to be a mover and shaker! A+++
finished Atlas Shrugged on Sat PM. what a good book! and it was made especially enjoyable bc so many freepers have handles taken from the book, that when i would come upon a character , the name sounded FAMILIAR to me, like it was the name of a real person! 1100 pages in a week may be a personal record.
Unfortunately, the old bod is becoming less and less “risible” when that urge strikes in the middle of the night, and early matriculation is more of a concern ....
The desire for bombing tents
Of some has begun to show-
Mad McCain is barely leashed
Poised and ready to go
Cooler heads say “no”, since
The justification is risible-
If Obama was before a judge
It just might be inadmissible
Some other country’s civil war
Just isn’t our game to call-
If we persist in the madness
We’ve learned nothing at all...
He was hilarious with Scott Hamilton, the Olympic skater last night. They both have great senses of humor and to see them hug, with Scott below his chest, was priceless. They gave him a Predators jersey with NEALON 60 on it. He’ll turn 60 in Nov.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it-my first read of it showed me the sense of my parent’s and family’s belief in personal liberty and responsibility, and every time I read it again, those beliefs are reinforced even more.
are you being suggestive, mr FON? LOLOL!!! A+++
