Word For The Day, Thursday, May 2, 2013 panegyric
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
panegyric; noun. a lofty oration or writing in praise of a person or thing; eulogy. 2. formal or elaborate praise.Origin: 15901600; < Latin, noun use of panēgyricus of, belonging to a public assembly < Greek panēgyrikós, equivalent to panḗgyr ( is ) solemn assembly ( pan- pan- + -ēgyris, combining form of ágyris gathering; cf. category) + -ikos -ic
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Here is my example with >> WFTD.
Today will forever be a day of panegyrics.
subbing today for the Truth, who is at Disneyworld in his role as GRANDPAP.
The last time I was at the airport, I got one of those Au Bon Pangyros.
A+++ i am hoping that my kitchen will be done by lunchtime, but the guys are not here yet to begin the final touches.
morning : )
History will be devoid of any laudatory panegyric for this current White House occupant.
A+++ if there are sane historians that is!
Subbing for the Truth?
You can’t handle the truth; but not to worry; you won’t have to. Today will be a day of Panicked Gyrations from Washington and the lick-spittle Press, running around with their hair on fire because Putin is using unconventional warfare, called diplomacy, instead of the expected thug tactics with which they are more comfortable.
Let me offer my panegyric for the 2 Colorado dems recalled.
To break this down for any sluggos who have not had the benefit of phootonic spelling: tending to pans and gyrations, panegyric. Try thinking of Martha Stewart doing the bossa nova while cooking up a batch of crème purina la canine. It’s all good.
A++++ laughingstocks, the lot of them.
Yes, indeedy. It’s a great day for the 2nd Amendment.
Last nights 15 minute speech was a national embarrassment, just like boy Hussein himself.
OOHRAH! A great day for liberty!
Yesterday was an incredible day for news/politics junkies.
As someone on twitter said, we should be relieved it's ONLY his finger that he gave to the crowd!
Didn’t watch it, had no intention of listening to a word from him. We were celebrating the job offer that xsteen’s boyfriend got yesterday, which means they can move forward towards getting engaged etc.
Grandkids are truly the Fountain of Youth. I'm doubly fortunate that my youngest son will be 12 in a few months. Those two really keep me in a youthful state of mind.
I had the great pleasure of watching my 3 YO grandson on Monday. We wore each other out with numerous games of "Steal Opa's Seat", while enjoying a continuous loop of "Cars 2". He zonked out at 3, and woke up over 2 hours later (a rare occurrence).
Made my day yesterday to hear spitzer and weiner were going down. Too bad in my local election the drunk won the primary. Good grief. What’s the matter with this county?
America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!
Ewww, Ti. Mental images of Client Number 9 and Carlos Danger was a mental image totally uncalled for.
losing...lol. ; )
i am far too young to have grandchildren ; ) my youngest is 19, oldest is 24. I look forward to them in the future though!
A++++ ridiculous. there is no sanity left.
My ex brother in law was a grandfather at 31.
what is physically possible isn’t necessarily morally proper or in the best interest of the child.
we are attending a wedding this weekend of one of xsboy’s 21 yo St James classmates. This young man and his girlfriend gave birth to a beautiful little boy 3 years ago this November. Both families are Catholic and extremely pro-life. The parents had the couple get married by a justice of the peace immediately. Both Stephen and his gf continued to live in their childhood homes and the baby went back and forth between them. Both are in college. They did the pre-cana classes and are getting married in church this weekend.xsboy is coming home from school to attend the wedding. he has hockey practice on Friday PM, so he intends to get up and leave by 6 am Sat to make the wedding.
I never said it was moral, but you are objectively not too young to be a grandmother. ;-)
morally too young, not physically.
Done by lunchtime-how convenient is that-you can try everything out...
I have the TV off now
While I work on a bid-
So I don’t have to see
Obama acting like a kid
On today, of all days
I just don’t want to see
Him there at the pentagon
The panegyrics of the media
Praising him near and far
Are offensive on 9-11,
As he longs for another war...
I did a number on my back hauling stuff too heavy for me out of the study yesterday, too impatient to wait for my compadre and helpers-I have no excuse for exceeding my limitations when part of my job is to keep others from doing that. So I’m doing invoices, working on a bid for a little job, and glad I have plenty of large Salonpas patches...
For Obama, the Press is panegyric
They’ll avoid anything that’s satiric
Now it’s one massive scam
But they don’t give a damn
That for America, his plan is Pyrrhic.
I am now a grandfather of sorts to a delicious baby egg.
OMG you aren’t going to eat your progeny are you????
A++++ oh you poor thing, you need to rest up!~
so sad. A++++
It’s the only reason I signed on to this entire “pet chicken” thing. About time we got something out of this venture.
they were gone when i came back from picking xsbaby from her class! hallelujah. Need to clean and put stuff away! cleaning lady is coming tomorrow to do a thorough cleaning, but i want to do the kitchen myself, bc i am just thrilled to have it back.
but you will consume the FIRSTBORN????
Look for a photo on my Twitter.
Thank you! Since my compadre called to say that the carpenter and his kid who had been working with me are building a shed today and tomorrow, I think I’ll recline in the recliner with a favorite book for awhile-a rare privilege...
Are you fostering/incubating eggs for your chickens?
with heat or cold on your back? i find with my periformis that i much prefer to sit on ice. when i had the hip replacements i really liked heat. i don’t know which is for what, but the chiro def said he was in favor of ice for inflammations, and that biofreeze he sold also helps.
I had another session of the dry needling for my leg last week at PT with disastrous results. I was almost back to where i had been and i have progressed far from April when this first struck. yesterday I had an excellent therapeutic massage with the woman that the chiro recommended back in April> i have seen her literally once a week since. she is fantastic. i told her that leg was bad and she went to town on it, elbows right in the butt muscle where the periformis is etc. I feel so much better today.
of the firstborn grandchild? whom does he/she favor ; )
I will not let anyone do a cleaning or make-ready on my kitchen, either-never have. It is my territory, and I want it my way...
There is no chiropractor within 30 miles of here-if there was, I’d have gone as soon as I realized what a dumb thing I’d done...
I have gone to the same acupuncturist for over 25 years- ever since the original injury-but he is 50 miles away. those patches are neither hot or cold-the active ingredients are menthol and methyl salicyclate-they are supposed to work for about 12 hours, but I’ve found them effective for 8-it will do for the couple days I need to get over this...
Can the biofreeze be purchased from most chiros-I’d like to try that.
Someone will. We aren’t going to bronze it.
No, this egg is for eating. We only have hens. The point is that this is the first egg ever from the chicks we got in the spring.
Sweet got some Canadian bacon to go with that?
