Hoard of Pigs Go Hog Wild in San Ramon
NBC Bay Area ^ | Wednesday, Sep 11, 2013 | Lisa Fernandez and Jodi Hernandez

It's no joke, but a hoard of wild pigs has gone hog wild in suburban San Ramon.

Over the last few months as many as 20 of the nocturnal beasts (at least, that's how one neighbor remembers it) have ripped up grass and turned over gardens - all in the hot pursuit of grub. When homeowners in the Henry Ranch neighborhood have woken up, they've been shocked to find their manicured lawns all askew.

"It looks like a tornado has hopped from yard to yard," Carrie Spurlock said. "We've tried to deter them, but they keep coming back."

And it's not just Spurlock's lawn that has been wrecked.

A recent visit to the neighborhood by NBC Bay Area on Wednesday revealed a dozen or so front lawns looking like they had been professionally Rototilled -- and left a mess -- by the rotund mammals destroying property in a neighborhood where home prices start at more than half a million dollars.

Neighbors have been frustrated with trying to get rid of the pigs. They've used pesticides to kill insects, which the pigs like to dine on. They've installed motion-sensored lights hoping that would keep the animals away. They said they've called the Dept. of Fish and Game, but haven't gotten the runaround. And they've called a trapper, who initially set up cages, but has since taken them down.

All to no avail.

For now, neighbors are left to replant their grass and smooth out their bumpy lawns.

"We're very aggravated," Spurlock said. "They might even be a danger to people."

I hope no one has been hoarding pigs. That’s bound to create a scarcity of bacon.
The journalist that committed this should be dismissed, forthwith, and join the horde of out of work folk.

Oh, for cryin’ out loud, just shoot them already and have the neighbors over for a pig pickin’!

LOL, I know, right?

There's no one, nowhere, nowhen, more pathetic than California Liberals.

Nor more sociopathic.

Solution is 1 part night vision goggles mixed with 2 parts AR 15 with suppressor. Fire up the barbie. :-)

Actually, the proper collective noun is a “sounder of pigs.”

Here’s a cool site.

Well, there’s a good supply up here now anyway.

On one client’s property on the east slopes of Morgan Territory there are so many turkey nests under the big oaks that its hard to drive around there.

We already have a wild turkey problem. Mix that with hogs, and what do you get?

A great Thanksgiving dinner!

Maybe they'll eat the extra acorns. It would help.

“We’ve tried to deter them, but they keep coming back.”

Shooting them usually deters them better than calling them names, putting up signs, setting up traps (they are generally smarter than the trappers) or wishing they would go away.

"They said they've called the Dept. of Fish and Game, but haven't gotten the runaround."

Journalism today... On the hogs, they're only moving in with their own kind. Those animal worshipers only believe that "some animals are more equal than others".

Yes, there are a few counties that limit the hunting of them, they are a terrible plague on CA. Montery county limits the hunting of them because they are mixed with Russian boar, what that has anything to do with it I am at a loss to explain. Most of the coastal counties, especially the northern ones are overun with wild hogs and the one per day limit is entirely reasonable and could be upped without doing any real harm to the population of the hogs.

I hear that it is not easy to shoot them.

That's why you have to use a Ka-Bar on them, up close and personal.
