Two dogs were hailed as heroes today after they heard a car crash more than a mile away and went on to save the driver's life.
Dobermans Star and Storm pulled hard on their leads and dragged along their owners, who did not hear the smash in rural Shropshire.
Sam and Emily Lewis followed their pets and they found a woman driver trapped in an overturned car in a country lane.

I have a basset hound that is wound up everytime we come home. He isn’t doing anything while we are gone, neighbors would complain. But as we drive up, he will be howling. I am convinced the know a smell or sound.
It’s hard to take seriously a site that can’t spell “German Shepherd” or do it consistently. Yet they can spell “Rottweiler”.
Never mind calling them “sheep guards” rather than the purpose indicated by their name.
I’m also not fond of “husky”. Is this just a Siberian Husky, or many SPITZ-type dogs?
I don’t dispute the absolute numbers, just that percentage is more important. Some of them are extremely popular, while others not so much.
My wonderful GS gone 18 years now could pick out UPS trucks MILES away. I have excellent hearing, and it could be 5 min before I heard that distinctive sound. She hated UPS men.
She also knew when someone stepped onto our official property even though it’s down the hill and you can’t see anything except heads. She might be watchful of a walker on the road, but if they stepped off onto our grass, she was going ballistic.
Current GS is clueless.
What’s really amazing here is the dogs seemed to distinguish that something was distressing.
Madam always gives a 5 minute warning. She knows 5 minutes before someone shows up at the house that they are coming. We have often wondered how she knows. Must be that she hears them coming from miles away.
“I believe ya. GSDs are awesome not to steal the Dobie thunder this thread is obviously about....”
I have two “awesomes” curled up on my feet while reading FR,(and they are that)
But then, I feel that way about most animals.
I like him, he sure looks like he is tough.
German Shepherds are incredible dogs. :)
Knuckles is nothing but a giant puppy.
Lassie once saved Timmy who had fallen down a well.......
Don’t say anything about Timmy. I watched a Lassy/Timmy movie recently where Timmy had to survive in the woods. He clubbed a wild boar to death with a big stick and then ate it. No kidding.
Somehow I just knew I would see you on this thread!
Can you make a recommendation for a good GS rescue org? I have a friend that is starting to get the itch for a replacement and he wants to stick with what he loves!
I’m kinda omnipresent.....:-D
I like his coloring. Great looking dogs with the patches/two colors on their face. I didn’t really pick my dog by color, he was the only one at the shelter not barking his head off.
