A THIRD of food produced worldwide goes to waste, UN report reveals
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 12:08 EST, 12 September 2013 | Ted Thornhill

The food the world wastes produces more greenhouse gas emissions than any country except for China and the United States, the United Nations said in a report.

Every year, about a third of all food for human consumption—around 1.3 billion tonnes (1.4 tons)—is wasted, along with all the energy, water and chemicals needed to produce it and dispose of it. Almost 30 percent of the world’s farmland, and a volume of water equivalent to the annual discharge of the River Volga, are in effect being used in vain. …

In the industrialized world, much of the waste comes from consumers buying too much and throwing away what they do not eat. In developing countries, it is mainly the result of inefficient farming and a lack of proper storage facilities. …

I can ‘tolerate’ those if prepared correctly.

If you don’t like Brussels Sprouts, you haven’t had them cooked right. Saute them in a skillet with some butter or bacon grease. Salt and pepper. Cook until they just start to brown on some of the leaves. Serve as is or toss with crumbled bacon. This is a whole ‘nuther animal than boring steamed Brussels Sprouts.

You're supposed to throw food away when it's no longer fit for human consumption.
Anything else will make people sick.
Or fat. Even as a little kid I could not understand how starving children in Africa would benefit from me overstuffing myself on Brussel sprouts or something else I did not like.

Agreed. There was even an environmentalist study that found that ending ethanol and biofuels based on edible products like palm oil would reduce food prices world wide by 15%.

It’s a good thing I liked them because my mother would declare depression month and we ate almost nothing but beans and oatmeal. It wasn’t so bad.

I sometimes get a hankerin’ for Lima beans real bad, I eat beans for days—nobody else enjoys them. They don’t enjoy me much after, either. :p

Beans are a great way to make use of a leftover ham bone.

Yeah but I like Hambone in the the pinto beans LOL

People have funny fondness’s based on not having money.

Black eyed peas do not work for me.
Cornbread crumbled in buttermilk does not work for me, but I could murder a tomater sangwich!

Grilled cheese sangwich and tomater soup is still a comfort food to me. Soooo Good.

Big fat fresh mater sammich is heaven! I don’t like grilled cheese so much, not sure why. Maybe because that’s all my mother would order for me after piano lessons. My husband sure loves grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Have you ever had a pineapple sandwich? My granny used to make those, vonerful if you can get past the strange idea of it.

I could never understand that, they said eat all your vegetables because there are kids starving in China.

Vegetables cause cancer. Over 99% of all oncology patients in local, state, and national hospitals report having been made to eat vegetables they disliked as children.

Settled science. Stick with the seven basic—and safe—food groups:

1.) Pizza
2.) Hamburgers and hot dogs
3.) Cookies, cake, pie, ice cream, and the like
4.) Potato chips, French fries, Fritos, crackers, and the like
5.) Coca-Cola
6.) Strong black tea, (or coffee for the faint of heart)
7.) Snacks

I may try a pbp.

Pineapple sandwich is with Kraft real mayo, and a thin slice of a good cheddar cheese.

I also love a green salad with pineapple chunks and blue cheese dressing—almost as good as candy.

That’s nothing. Two-thirds of US tax revenues go to waste.

Irish coffee is the perfect food since it has all 4 essential food groups; sugar, fat, caffeine and alcohol.
