FULL TITLE: The mystery of Foss Lake: Two sunken cars containing six bodies are found by chance after more than FORTY YEARS. But how did their passengers die?

They had lain undiscovered under an Oklahoma lake for over forty years.

And now the discovery of two rusting vintage cars containing six bodies has reignited the mystery of how three teenagers and three other people vanished more than four decades ago.

Highway patrol officers testing their sonar equipment Foss Lake near Elk City, Oklahoma on Friday stumbled upon the rusting 1969 Camaro and a Chevrolet dating back to the 1950s.

Inside the Camaro were three bodies believed to be of local teenagers who vanished after going out for a drive in 1970. Inside the Chevrolet were three more bodies – thought to be a 69-year-old man and his two friends who went missing in the state in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Must have been an error-prone turn.

Must have been incompetent flat-feet on the job at the times (separated by a decade or two).

Does anybody know this area?

Could it have been the result of somebody taking a turn too quickly and sliding off the road?

Giant birdie picking up the cars and dropping them on shiny surface to crack the shells. Ooops. Bird acting stupidly.

Then going back to wherever it came from. Still hungry.

I can only imagine the heartbreak and pain of family and friends all these years, wondering what happened. I hope this discovery, gruesome as it is, can bring some closure and peace for some hurting families.

Must have been an error-prone turn.

I’m thinking something like that as well.

I remember the woman in the seattle area a few years ago. She went off the road in the one place where you could. I drove by her and didn’t know she was there. She could have been stuck there for decades, just 30 feet off the road, if it had not been for such an extensive search. It was amazing they found her alive after several days.

Damn GPS told them to turn ....!

(In my town had a moron drive past a barricade down a flooded street - had to rescue him by boat! When questioned by cops said GPS told him to turn down this road)

Unlikely as the find was in the marina area. It’s not a place for normal operation/driving due to the parking area having empty boat trailers and tow vehicles.

Looking at Google, you can see that Route 44 is the only highway that runs right along the reservoir. It has a guard rail and a fairly wide embankment down to the water. Also, no sharp turn.

If they had managed to lose it and drive off 44, the guard rail would have been breached, and I would expect someone would have investigated. Or maybe there was no guard rail back then.

Other possibility: Behind the marina, there is a little picnic area with water on three sides and a road running through it. So, maybe it was nighttime, and they were drunk and screwing around back there and managed to drive into the water without leaving an obvious clue.
