ELK CITY, Okla. – Emergency crews pulled two cars from Foss Lake in Custer County Tuesday afternoon.

The Elk City Daily News reported human remains have been found in both vehicles.

Investigators said one of the vehicles is connected to a cold case more than 40-years-old where three teenagers went missing Nov. 20, 1970.

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro crews pulled from Foss Lake may have belonged to 16-year-old Jimmy Allen Williams, who was last seen driving in Sayre with two friends, 18-year-old Thomas Rios and 18-year-old Leah Johnson.

The three teens never returned home and have not been heard from since.

The second vehicle, a 1957 Chevy, may be linked to an older cold case from the 1950s or 1960s where two people went missing from Canute.

The Custer County Sheriff is asking anyone with information to call (580) 323-1616.

UPDATE 3:36 p.m. – Custer County authorities were practicing with a new sonar device when they found the vehicles in Foss Lake Tuesday afternoon near the marina, according to the Elk City Daily News.

UPDATE 4 p.m. – Officials have confirmed the identity of at least one of the victims in the 1969 Camaro found in Foss Lake, according to the Elk City Daily News. The identities are not being released until all family members are notified. Details about the remains in the 1950′s Chevy are not being released.

UPDATE: 5:36 p.m. -The Sheriff now says the remains of six bodies have been found found in the two cars found in Foss Lake Tuesday.

I miss the days when most people cared about their appearance, their manners and their choice of words when they were in public places. It does not take money to look decent and act respectfully— all it requires is simply caring enough. But not so much friends’ parents screaming behind closed doors (at each other or the kids) fist fights on the front lawn, teenage runaways, threats of gun violence and domestic abuse, worry over bills, and racial/sexist remarks that passed without comment that would raise eyebrows on Mad Men etc.

I was reading somewhere this morning that there had been an anonymous back then about the camaro being in the lake.makes you wonder if that’s why the back is damaged maybe someone witnessed something.

I am thinking that if the Camaro went into the lake in a forward motion, the front would be the first thing to hit the water, and the car would sink front first due to the weight of the engine.

Even if the Camaro turned over while sinking, I would expect the roof to crush a bit but not the rear end to look like it does—ie, crushed and/or ripped apart.

It is entirely possible that bothe Chevy in 1957 and the Camaro in 1970 were driving along at a fair rate of speed and flew into the lake off the boat ramp. I don’t know how deep the water is at that location. Obviously there was mud, and the cars may have sunk into it.

It is so strange to think that people could be launching boats right over these cars for years.

Bodies of water hold many secrets.I am glad these folks have been found.

And the police should continue looking. Within the past few years, various canals in the State of Florida have been searched and multiple missing people and vehicles have been found.

Supposition: 3 teenagers sitting(smoking, drinking), enemy rams rear end pushing vehicle into lake. Say it was done and pushing vehicle then junked, without questioning. No one suspicious of vehicle with major front-end damage because the were franticly looking for missing teenagers only.

Could have been hit by a boat after it sank. Most people would think they just hit a log. Especially if it were a couple of years later.

I looked at it on Google Earth and it seems pretty clear what might have happened , at least with the Camaro ... This is a reservoir and there is a highway #44 that runs straight along the eastern edge ... a perfect place to have discrete drag races .. my guess is he got hit hard and crashed into what looks like deep water on the eastern edge OR possibly got off the road and got airborne landing on the rear end.... it doesn’t look like a good fishing area , no natural cover for fish .. so the car could stay undiscovered for a long time..

The 1952 Chevy with the old driver.. best guess ... along the same hwy #44 there is a series of dirt roads on the left that go straight into the water at an outcropping only a half mile or so before you would have made a left turn onto highway #73... most likely an accident with entrapment.

***********************************
Happens all the time here in Florida ... The Camaro took a vicious hit to the rear .. so much so that you can see the rear unibody bent and might have (probably) jammed the doors. Since no mention was made of the damage when the kids went missing and the damage would have made the car undrivable it must have happened at the time it went into the water.

If these happened at night that makes disorientation and panic a near certainty...

Check the photo’s at the local link and pull up the gps coordinates in Google Earth.

OOPS! ,, that would be a right turn into the lake and onto hwy #73 if heading South on #44.

Sounds reasonable-that would be an explanation for the severe rear end damage. The other party to the accident may have kept their mouth shut to cover their involvement in the collision.

I think there are more cars down there in this lake.

there was a serial killer dumping his victims there.

the rear is horribly mangled. Impact with the water did not do that.

If I were an investigator assigned to the case, my first line of investigation would be to find if any of the local police cars had any front end body work done on them around the time these cars and bodies disappeared.........

For two cars with bodies found in a lake, one would think that a police investigation at the time of disappearance would have discovered, at the very least, tire tracks leading into the lake.......unless the cops were involved.

Just my thoughts......

The Camaro incident might fit the “dog that didn;t bark” scenario.

The ‘52 Chevy sounds more like an accident.

Mythbusters did an episode that showed that when you crash into water, get the heck out IM MEDIATELY—do not wait for the ater to rise in the car to supposedly equalize the pressure outside and inside the door. B y the time happens, the interior of the car is full of water and you are drowned or a bout to be drowned.

Multi tools are available that can be used to break the window glass and to cut the seatbelt webbing.

I think the damage to the Camaro may just be from the effort to pull it out of the water. The fenders obviously have holes in them, it seems obvious that the sheet metal in both vehicles would be thoroughly rotten.

In one of the later photos, the roof of the Camaro was removed. There certainly wasn’t any reason to use the jaws of life in this instance, the roof may have crumbled fairly easily.
