Would have been more helpful if the map had a timeline as part of the animation.

It would be better if they had had a legend of years as it progressed. It makes little sense as it is.

Watching this I can’t help but wonder how many millions of people have died in those thousand years for relatively minor changes in borders? WWII was 65+ million and WWI was nearly 20 million. And we call ourselves ‘civilized’.

this is great but could use some annotations as to what you are seeing
I was totally surprised at how big Poland used to be.

They should have had a ‘Year’ counter in the upper left corner so you can tell what era was being shown.............

Biggest tragedy for Europe, the fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

That would require a map that goes back to Alexander’s empire..................

They should connect this to the rise of political thought in the New World that said that men can govern their own affairs without the Divine Right of Kings. All these hundreds of border shifts and the countless deaths to make them happen were all the result of tyranny, monarchy, and power-mad men and women.
To: Red Badger
this would be fantastic learning tool if you slowed it down and annotated it to show what was occuring
As it is, you just see borders popping up and changing all over, sometimes all over the place that is hard to follow at this speed, and without context as to what was happening.
For example it might say “This is the year when Ghengis Khan ruled and expanded to ...” (”In a manner reminscent of Jenjis Khan”)

Well, if you think about it, except for the last little bit, all of them have died.

“1000AD”
(Sigh) Well they also say “Could care less” so they’re never going to get dates right either.
(It’s AD 1000, not 1000AD)

bfl. Someone apparently did a really good animation of WWII some time back. Saw it on FR, but don’t have the link.
