Oh, and when he finally put it up, it’s already stale — the latest news on CNN is that most hostages have been freed:

“Kenya mall attack: Military says most hostages freed, death toll climbs to 68”

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/22/world/africa/kenya-mall-attack/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

and:

“Sources within Al-Shabaab told CNN that nine names listed on a Twitter site — now suspended — were people who were among the alleged hostage-takers.

Three of the alleged attackers are from the United States, two are from Somalia and there is one each from Canada, Finland, Kenya and the United Kingdom, according to the list.”

Don't know what you're talking about.

Hadn't even heard of the massacre till I read it on Drudge. Just found out that three of the attackers are allegedly Americans on Drudge.

So I’m curious now... I mean, FINALLY Drudge has a few links up, talking about the *end* if a news story that they never really linked to... lame.

What I’m curious about is, what’s another good place to go to for news... I’m thinking specifically about some kind of news aggregator like Drudge, somewhere I can go to during my daily commute and get the top news (and not from some wacky liberal slant)... and I don’t mind the occasional tabloid and weird stories that Drudge likes to use... they can break up a bad news day with some humorous pauses.

Anything with an IOS or Android app is a plus... I have the Fox News app for Android which is okay, but not great.

I hate to say it this way, but you must live under a rock and only read Drudge and if it’s not there, you think it doesn’t exist.

This has been going on for three days, it’s been breaking news as it was unfolding with more and more info on CNN, FoxNews and other news stations/websites. The fact that three were from the US has been known and out there — including posted on FR since this morning and Drudge just finally posted it, when the info became stale.

He still doesn’t even have the latest, that most hostages have been freed.

This was THE major breaking and unfolding news story for the past three days and Drudge had nothing on it, until just now and even now, as I said, he didn’t even post the latest, what he posted late today was stuff known yesterday.

I usually check CNN, FoxNews and realclearpolitics.com, as well as news.google.com.

Yahoo revamped their news, you might want to check that out too:

http://news.yahoo.com/

They now also have a category: “odd news”

And I'm left asking the question, since when does a terrorist attack in Kenya merit so much concern?

Sorry, but the world's a mess. What makes this so important?

“Sorry, but the world’s a mess. What makes this so important?”

It’s a terrorist attack against civilians, non-Muslims, in a mall, with nearly two hundred people injured, 69 murdered, 60 held hostage.

Today in Kenya, tomorrow in the US...

I guess you are the type of person who would ask, why is 9-11 important, after all just a few thousand Americans died, so what’s the big deal — thousands of people are dying all over the world, so what’s the big deal?

Thanks for the tip on trying Yahoo news. I use Yahoo finance, I never thought to check their news feed, even though I’ve noticed Drudge sometimes links to their site.

I think what we all need to know is how this terrorist group got its weapons.

Africa is awash with weapons. Somalia (Al Shabaab's home) has been a failed state for 20 years. The upper 2/3 of the country are basically autonomous. The Transitional Federal Government has barely managed to hold the capitol for most of its existence. There are 18,000 UN peacekeepers (funded by the EU) mostly from Uganda holding down the barracks in Mogadishu and selling their supplies for profit. One of Al Shabaab's biggest supporters is Eritrea, a nastly little country just up the coast which sends in weapons as fast as they can. Most African dictators give weapons to the rebels in their neighboring countries to make them unstable. Gaddaffi was famous for pumping arms into Chad and Sudan. The Somali army didn't get paid for several years so I'm sure lots of them sold their weapons as well. After all, the West will send more.

I don't know if any of these matter to you but I'll give you a few items to concider:

1. Many members of Al Shabaab are from the United States, namely the large refugee population in Minnesota. There have been several attempted terrorist attacks in the west linked to Al Shabaab.

2. Kenya is about 80% Christian. Al Shabaab specifically targeted non Muslims for murder. Obama's buddy Odinga unleashed a wave of Muslim on Christan violence when he lost the 2006 presidential election in Kenya. Obama campaigned for him.

3. Al Shabaab is directly linked to Al Qaeda and about half of their leadership are Al Qaeda foreign fighters.

4. We are already involved. The US has been running a covert war (mostly via drones) in Somalia for years. The Pentagon confirmed earlier this year that we lost a drone over Somalia.

You don't have to care. But it never hurts to be informed.

Thanks for the answer to my question "how do these terrorists get their weapons"?

It does not seem like a problem that will be solved by the US toppling governments and providing more arms.
