There are. Pretty much every Euro country gets a heritage month or at least a week. German heritage month is October for rather obvious reasons.

Tony Romo?

I know that this was a question from the NFL site; but, when I see a name like "Tony Romo" I think Italian. Am I wrong?

Tony Romo's full name is Antonio Ramiro Romo. The full story on his background is here: Tony Romo's heritage always close by . A number of people mistake him for Italian.

What irritates me about this is spanish language is available on SAP on every NFL broadcast. When they then take cuts from the SAP and replay it on regular audio, that isn’t celebrating hispanic heritage... it is pushing it as the normal. I have no problem with SAP. In fact I think its great. But, why do they need to broadcast the SAP over normal for 1 month periodically to celebrate something? Do they broadcast English on the SAP channel?

After that shocking performance then yes.

Ashley Young should never put a united top on ever again, Fellani is just a big lump and to think Wenger gets Ozil and we get mop head.

I never wanted Moyes in the first place because he always lost to the bigger clubs, and has no idea about Europe but it seems they got him because he won’t rock the boat like Morinho

If we write forms and have other languages then there is no incentive for them to ever learn our language .

I must admit I wasn’t sad to see Fellaini go, he was useless for us before the transfer, they’ve played pretty well since all the drama was resolved. Baines and Barkley look great!

he;s just a big dirty lump who sells big wigs.

Today we lacked creativity and Kagawa could have done that, so could Nani and why would we keep playing Welbeck when his great goal scoring record for us last season was 1 and he;s hardly a decent goal scorer anyway.

Moyes rings on Cleverly with 3 mins into the second half, he , Moyes really screwed up on team selection and I don;t know one united fan who thinks Young should ever get any more from united.

Yes I;m still gutted and will be for days over today.

Baines is a great player, instead we get big lump who seems to not have fond out how to sprint, just what on earth was he doing today other than being lazy.

And don’t we get to see pink shoes and pink uniform accessories next month for breast cancer awareness, or some such?

As a 75%+ German-American in a region heavily influenced by German culture, this is news to me.

My guess is most Euro types have “months” with zero publicity.

All depends on where you hang out and what you pay attention to. We have an Oktoberfest in Tucson every year. I don’t know how often they mention German history month but they put the fest right in the middle of it. Oddly enough St Patrick’s Day is right in the middle of Irish Heritage Month. We have a Greek festival in Tucson that actually isn’t during during Greek History Month (which is March, guess they don’t like competing with St Patrick’s Day). The amount of publicity is really dependent on the group, if you have a bunch of people in that group that think the commemorative month is important and schedules events you’ll find out about it, if you don’t you won’t.

Local stuff is 1 thing. I’m talking about any kind of state or national-level promotion. You KNOW that there is no Euro promotion of any weeks or months, even if they officially signed off on it. We ALL KNOW there is Black Month, and now Hispanic Month, and even Women’s Month. Who can name anything else? Oh, LGBT month is disgustingly rearing its ugly head. Once again, there is no promoted Oriental month either. Only the whining losers get months. Why don’t sports worry about not having any orientals?

I am very aware of mere festivals. Baltimore used to have a ton of them in succession in the same place. That is not the same as putting it all over TV and using pro sports to promote them.

It’s all about the size of the group. If there’s a national group that actually cares about the month it’ll get promoted nationally. Look at Black History Month, used to be HUGE, especially on the History Channel, now nobody cares.

I can name MANY others. But that’s because I rejoice in the silliness of these commemorative days, months and years. Between the cultural stuff, the disease stuff, and the food stuff every day of the year is part of at least a dozen of them.

You should talk to the NBA about not worrying about having orientals. They put a LOT of effort into getting Chinese players over here, and trying to help them succeed. And MLB has put in some similar efforts to get Japanese players.

Pro sports in this point is not promoting it, they’re pandering to it. The NFL is desperately trying to become international, they want the money from the fans and they want the players in the pipeline. That’s America Bowl has existed in one form or another for decades, that’s why there was NFL Europe, and that’s why they’re paying attention to Hispanic Heritage Month.
