TVWorthWatching ^ | September 20, 2013

In life, he never won an Emmy, although nominated twice. In death he won’t receive one of the five separate special “In Memoriam” tributes during the Sunday, Sept. 22 awards ceremony on CBS. The program’s executive producer made that firmly if imperfectly clear when asked, by me, during a Wednesday afternoon teleconference.

Hagman is more deserving due to his contribution to TV: I Dream of Jeannie & Dallas. Jack Klugman's son took issue as well.

Cory’s mom said “If he had lived 30 more years he would have accomplished much more,” she tells TMZ. The site says that she believes Adam is misdirected in his anger, though she notes that this likely comes from a place of a son who misses his father.

Tough decision: Do you do a special segment on the reformed alcoholic who destroyed his liver and got a liver transplant that extended his life by about 15 years, or do you go with the non-reformed heroine addict who OD'd and left a pretty corpse?

I was pleased to see Larry Hagman as the other guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien when I had gotten stand by tickets for Sarah Michelle Gellar’s appearance. I enjoyed “I Dream of Jeannie” in repeats back in the 70’s. AS J. R. he was great. Rush was a “Dallas” fan as well.

And Klugman died at 90 but he had health issues from smoking.

Yep. And Hagman enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. That should count for something.

“This year, for the first time, Emmy organizers have decided to beef up the “In Memoriam” section with special tributes to five notable TV figures who died this year. The other honorees are writer-producer Gary David Goldberg, comic legend Jonathan Winters, and actors James Gandolfini and Jean Stapleton.” I bet there will be song & dance numbers or awards that could have been introduced combined .

Without getting into the drug issues surrounding Montieth’s death, he should not be honored. He was a forgettable part of an ensemble cast. His singing was sub-par and the acting was not much better.
On the other hand, Hagman was simply amazing, regardless of his role.

Because he is popular among the young which is who they hope watch. The 70-80 crowd already watch. It is all marketing.

As opposed to liberal hypocrite Larry Hagman, the tobacco smoker, reefer doper, LSD tripper alcoholic. Tough decision.

I agree. This is about getting the younger demographic to tune into the Emmys.
